Custom headers

Hey fellas,

I was at my exhaust shop the other day and was enquiring about a set of headers/extractors for my 98 XLT SOHC. I know that a pre-fab set doesn't exist (hmmm...souonds like a certain suspension lift), so I asked the guy about a custom set.

He said there was about AUS$1000 worth of work in it. This was *slightly* out of my price range (FYI this is approx how much it would cost for a susp. lift [if the *******s ever came out]).

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew if there were any works in development/progress (Borla, Dynomax, Flowmaster?) I figured you guys would have an easier time finding this out...plus I'm too friggin lazy (hey, I'm a college student).

If I'm *forced* to, I think I may *have* to get the custom set made up. But what if a susp. lift gets released by then? Oh no...decisions decisions...

Maybe I should concentrate on studying...

Yo BK,
So far the headers for SOHC engines are like the suspension lifts for 95+ Explorers, which are nonexistent. Dead Link Removed Maybe we should make this thread a list of those people who want headers for their SOHC and send it to the header manufactures.
What do you say guys. Anyone want headers for their SOHC?

There is a company called JBA Headers that makes headers for the SOHC Explorers. I don't think this application is posted on their site but the site is www.jbaracing.com

I spoke through email with Jim Escobar at JBA, and he said that they have headers for this application. They are US$539.15, and he said installation usually takes 5-6 hrs.

This excellent news...

I just came back from an off road trek and F*UCKED UP BIG TIME...the FIRST obstacle I went through, I caught a stick through a feeder hose for the power steering fluid...cosequently, I had to use my arms as steering dampers for the rest of the trip...

I can't believe how much difference it makes...the wheel was absolutely ripping out of my hands...it was such a work out to keep it straight...

So anyway, does anyone know how much it is to replace a power steering cooler assembly? (stick busted inlet tube)...I should probably post this elsewhere...but I'm too lazy...

Regardless, the news about JBA is good enough to keep me form slitting my wrists...

AAARRRGGGHHH!!! the pain...

Just a thought...if the OHV and SOHC are made from the same block, won't the same set of headers fit? Why would this be wrong?

HI BK,
That's funny you should ask that. I had to have my power steering cooler replaced last month. It costed me $190.00US to have Ford do it. I couldn't believe it wasn't a warrenty item. Dead Link Removed Mine was cracked and leaking. It tool about an hour for them to do it.

I e-mailed JBA Racing, and got a similar reply like sprsvt...they said they were available!!

The donwside is the cost (particularly for me...shipping and exchange rates would SLAUGHTER my wallet)...anyway, the search continues...

Parts alone cost me AUS$194...then there's labour...and all the other hidden costs that remain hidden until you see the bill...

oh well...huzzah for JBA!!

Sorry, I meant parts for the power steering cooling assembly cost me that much...I actually just got it back, and it totalled AUS$275...ow ow ow...

I learnt from that mistake...I just ordered a nudge bar and will fabricate a bash plate for it...for "next" time...
