We recently built some with a 3" cut and turn. The process was straight forward, building the Jigs was the most difficult part, but still not rocket science.
There is excellent information in that article provided from the Zimmermans. Also research is key, figuring out exactly what setup will work for you will make or break your project.
Basically you will see a few different styles or cut and turned TTB beams, some leave the beam itself alone, only extending the lower ball joint mount out a little, making it possible to dial in camber with much more lift.
Comapnies like Camburg and Autofab will also extend the beams for a wider stance, if you go too much this requires new axle shafts $$$$.
There is a bunch of info about beams over at offroadrangers.com........
Also you will want to consider your options when it comes to the location and type of shocks, coils, and radius arms..
I am going to be running (not installed yet):
D35 TTB from 94 Ranger cut and turned for 3" of lift
Duff 2" axle pivot drop brackets. Eibach 5" TTB lift coils.
Rancho 9000 shocks, F-250 eye style shock mounts, Skyjacker extended radius arms, superlift 4" drop pitman arm and extended brake lines. ARB locker, 4.10 gears.
You will also want to think about the stock steering setup, I belive 12-14" of travel is about the maximum the inverted Y setup will handle.........
