I just used a battery powered dewalt reciprocating saw in the parking lot at the tire shop. I just kinda grabbed and cut. I only had to cut the back side though. We also don't run inner fenders so I didn't have to worry about that.
Here is a shot of the better looking side.
This one I started to dig too far into the fender. It doesn't look that bad but I've seen much nicer cuts when people taped and measured where they wanted to cut. Mine is all freehand.
