D4 drain plug missing

Uhhhhhh.........from what I read on here I thought all the D4 rear ends have drain plugs........not mine!! Is this common??? I found the fill plug (facing forward) but not hide nor hair of a drain plug!!

I guess it is removing the differential cover for me!!

AFAIK, no 8.8 on a 1st or 2nd gen explorer came with a drain plug on the factory cover. You remove the diff cover to change the fluid. There are a few aftermarket covers that have drain plugs but most still only have a fill plug on the cover.

One tip.. Pull the fill plug before you pull and cover. I've seen a few cases where someone couldn't pull the fill plug, but didn't find out until the diff cover was already pulled.
