Ok guys - I am wrapping up the swap this weekend. Running into a few questions on the brakes/disc/spindle assembly...

What order does everything go together? This is what I am doing...

1) brake splash guard
2) caliper bracket
3) spindle and disc assembly

here is the problem...

disc apparently rubs against caliper bracket. The bracket is mounted so the caliper is more inside than outside

the spindle does not have enough thread to hold both bearing nuts

the hub appears to be locked - even though it isn't installed. This I am guessing is because there is a locker in the front and that is where the binding seems to be coming from.

Thanks for the help guys!

swap the caliper brackets, left side to right side, see if that helps. I had that problem, and noticed that there is a relief on the brackets, I had them on the wrong side:D

Thanks,
Turns out I had the bracket on in the wrong order.

Next issue I found is the grease fitting on the upper balljoint gets in the way of the ujoints. It even threw the axle stub off enough to make the hub not go in. That issue is solved now (after 6 hours of head scratching)

I need to mount the track bar bracket and the drag link, then run a few brake lines and then I am done - for now :D

The upper balljoint is supposed to come with two zerk fittings - one regular, one plug.

You put the regular in, grease it, pull the regular and put the plug in.

Is that what you did?

Tom,
I didn't even think to save the zirks - I gotta pick a couple extra ones up. But that is what will happen - grease, pull fitting and plug.

Here's a few pics of progress...

what locker did you finally go with?? and what springs are those, I was thinking of going with the Duff springs but unsure on hight. and are those 37's??

Marshall,
I have the Detroit EZ up front and a regular Detroit in the rear.

The springs are Duff 3.5" VR's

And yes - those are 37's. Plenty of room at this point, but I will probably go with fiberglass.

Jon, looks damn good

who made those sliders and do you have any close up pics of how they mount up

Ryan

Ryan,
I made them - mounts are ugly but effective :)

I'll get you some pics.

Ryan - here are some pics of the sliders. My welding skills have gotten better (thank god) as this was the first project I tried to weld...

I need to pull the bars out a tad and then weld the rail to the mounting tube. Then they are complete!
