Hey Guys,
The autolamp on my mirror tends to work even when the slider is all the way on off. its annoying because during the day, itll turn on and I dont want it to! Is there anyway to disable the autolamp feature all together? It always turns my lights on before the truck is fully on causing my HIDs to go all hay wire. Thanks guys

I took this mirror out of my 96 X that was totaled. Notice the on/off button to the right of the slider. If yours doesnt have the button you can probably get a mirror from a junk yard.

A real simple solution is just pull the fuse for it. That's what I did. It's in the panel on the side of the dash.

Hey Bill,
My mirror actually has a slider on the bottom instead of buttons like yours. Its slid all the way to the left (off) but it turns on no matter what now. It just started happening. BTW- what brand radar detector is that?

Dan,
Where is this fuse at? I looked at my book and pulled 2 fuses (Anything I saw that said DRL) and it still happened! Do you know which fuse number you pulled was?

Side note: 12 viewers of this thread. Must be a hot topic!

Let me go out and have a look.

Far left row, third fuse down. It is a 10A fuse.

If I recall, DRL has nothing todo with the slider, the slider is for the delayed headlamps for when you get out at night they stay on, the longer is to the right. My 95s mirror has the auto mirror button, dim button, slider, and automatic headlights button. When I press the auto headlights they come on at night and stay on for however long you have the slider set to when you get out...DRL also decreases the output by like 25% I think, so that's very bad if you have HIDs...I hope that helps a little at least...

Dan,
I looked at the fuse box inside the truck. Those entire third row down is 7.5AMP fuses. Now, on the far third row 4th fuse down is a 10 amp--- but this is for my antilock brake system??

In my owners manual for my 1997 it is fuse #9 10A for autolamps (which is the far left third fuse down). It's possible someone replaced the 10A wit a 7.5A at sometime.

Afboy, give the slider switch a shot of WD-40.
Might or might not work, but it's done wonders
for my balky switches; liftgate, park brake, etc.

My autolamp slider did this too, lubed it and so
far so good......

He never mentioned DRL. He's talking about the fact his HID kit is adversely affected during startup and doesn't want that to happen, hence he's trying to disable Autolamp altogether, but for whatever reason he's not able to turn it off.

Afboy, my HIDs don't always fire at startup when I have my autolamp is turned on too. Unfortunately, I've had to get into the habit of turning autolamps off upon startup and then slide the switch once I get it started. Sometimes one light doesn't fire. Sometimes both. Is that's what happening to you? I had solved the problem with a SUVlights harness, but now that doesn't work. I had some alternator issues recently and I don't think my battery is as charged as it could be, hence why the lights don't come on either all the time. Too bad because I really like Autolamp. My last three Explorers have had it so I'm pretty used to keeping it on at all times.

The easiest way to disable autolamps is to unplug the mirror (plug is on the back side of the mirror). This will also disable the auto-dimming feature of the mirror, but it will solve your immediate problem. I should not affect normal headlight function.

I hate autolamp which is why Im trying to turn it off! lol

The slider isnt working at all. I have it slid all the way to OFF but the autolamp is still working. (Itll slide just fine, but the autolamp wont turn off and I hate it!!) Its never done this until recently so Im figuring the mirror is going bad or something. What is happening is the lights turn on before the truck is fully started up which I am afraid might be sending a surge or power to the HID's. The reason I think this is either a bulb or ballast stopped working on the passenger side now. I was to disable autolamp but keep autodim enabled.

I might just have to do what hworks says and just unplug the dang thing.

Im thinking of installing this mirror into my ranger I installed the overhead console and the wiring harness has the plug for the mirror I have the info of the wires comming from the harness but no info on were to tap the wires to the truck. I have mirror in the pics u show on this threads.
