We've just purchased a 1999 Ford Explorer (am in New Zealand so right hand drive) and I've noticed the dimmer wheel is missing. Finding it rather annoying as I can't adjust the dashboard lights and they seem to be set on low to nothing.

Does anyone know where I can purchase a part for this? The Ford dealer I've contacted here in NZ reckons they aren't stocked and it'll cost me $150 NZ to get a secondhand replacement. And then I would have to pay to get it fitted unless we could figure it out ourselves.

thanks
Emma

Here in the states, I would just go to a junkyard. There are millions of old Explorers around, especially after "Cash for Clunkers." Is that an option for you??

Before going that deep, I would make sure all of the bulbs in the cluster are operational. They do burn out.

There is a "how to" for this on the forum.

Thanks I'll look for the how to :) We do have wreckers yards but explorer's while popular aren't a large part of our car population people here have gone overboard on the diesal 4x4's.
