Decent replacement headlight bulbs

I've had the issue of one HID or the other not staying during engine crank on all three of my DDM kits. It's random almost always when the temp is ~50F or less.

This only with the autolamp feature of the headlights on. The headlights come on, then the engine cranks which drops battery voltage and the lights go off and on as it cranks. If I just turn the lights off after the engine is running and the back on the light will come back on. I just check to see that they are by checking the lights on garage wall or their reflections on cars in the parking lot if I am not at home.

Is this a minor pain, yes. Are the HIDs worth the trouble, yes x 1000.

I have never had to put halogens back in to get the lights to come on, but all three kits used the relay harness.

*note: come to think of it, my mustang never had this problem after I replaced the battery. The others all have/had the original battery.

So are you saying the lights work fine when switched on manually and that they only do this when the auto on feature is enabled?

If you are running on the same circuit that the halogens were on then try upgrading the fuses in the panel. I watched a video that said unless you swap the 15A fuses with 20A ones then you could run into the lights not coming on at start up because of the initial current draw at that point.

As requested instead of going with a full HID Swap out you can get an awesome set of Nokya Bulbs in whatever color you want and give you a similar HID look without doing anything but changing the bulbs
I've used them in the past great quality and warranty
Check eBay.
Thanks

here's a dumb question. does my 2013 have separate high and low beam bulbs? The bulbs I bought aren't marked either way.

No it doesn't. Just the one bulb. If it operates the same as the HID then there is a shield that flips up for high beam and lowers to cover part of the bulb for low beam.
Here is what your Owner's Guide shows on page 361 (4th printing)
Low/high beam headlamp, number of bulbs 2, Trade Number HB3

9011/HIR bulb upgrade

you should try the 9011 (HIR1) bulbs. There is a noticeable difference.

Installed a set of HIR/9011 bulbs today took the Ex out for a ride tonight. All I can say is WOW. There is a huge difference between the new 9011's and the 9005's they replaced. The old bulbs were not much brighter than a couple of D cell flashlights taped the the fenders. Drove down some of the same roads as in the past with the old bulbs. Bulbs are most definitely far brighter. The road in front of the car is brighter as well as further down the road. Lighting off the side of the road and street signs is also way better.

Why Ford does not supply these as OEM is beyond belief as the 9005's are terrible. Hard to imagine that Ford has to cut corners on costs so much that they are selling cars with inadequate and in some situations dangerous headlights. Wish I would have known about this easy fix earlier
