So ordered our explorer on 2/6, built 3/17 with sync 2.8 and been sitting ever since.

So I decided to take a look at another dealer's inventory just to see what they have. Low and behold, they have the EXACT vehicle with exception to the roof cross bars which we don't want. Not only that, it was built on 3/25.. yes 8 days after mine was built and it's on their lot. It does have sync 2.7 but I know 2.8 will be out the end of this month.

Now if that doesn't piss me off, I don't know what does. Now I have 3 options and really don't know what to do.

1) cancel my order, get my deposit back and go to this dealer (which I will only get the $500 rebate instead of $1,000).

2) Go to my dealer and see if they'll do a swap to go get the vehicle (again, lose the $1,000 rebate and get the $500 one)

3) Wait for mine to come in.

A few things that I have to decide on.. I got approval for the loan through my credit union on 4/1 which lasts for 30 days at 2.95% for 66 months.. Do I risk losing this rate/approval on waiting for mine to come in when I have no idea when it will???

So I'm looking at $620 more for this vehicle between paying for the roof bars and losing $500 (rebate).

What the hell do I do??? lol.

Feedback?? Opinions??

Ack.

My 2 cents:

Talk to Seni tomorrow and see what's up with yours.

Then, talk to your dealer if there's no chance you'll get your ordered Ex soon, convince your dealer to not charge you for the crossbars and see if they can throw in another $500 of something you do want.

I'm Xplan.. kind of hard to negotiate with that. My brother in law bought a 11 Ford Escape on Monday from them and they walked out cheaper then Xplan so I was thinking of calling the other dealer and saying.. I have a vehicle on order for "x" price (not xplan, but quote the price) and see if they'll match it. I'd quote $500 off the price (to make up for the rebate) and see what they say. So my xplan is $44,717. I'd say I'm gettiing it for $44,217 and see what they do. They've got 10 on the lot. I'd pay for the crossbars if they ate the rebate.. but I doubt they'd do it.

I've also ran into a scenario where I have contacted a dealer that had a vehicle I wanted then visited the dealer I wanted to do business with to hopefully go get it and they wouldn't sell it because they knew it was for me who had called prior. So I really don't know if I want to attempt contacting the dealership that has it then go to mine and try to have them get it. AHHHHHH

What's frustrating is we sold our 2nd car and have been borrowing a Toyota Corolla from my inlaws (vomit) for the past 6 weeks waiting for ours to come in.

PS - I talked to Seni on Thursday, still showing week of 4/2 and Jamie from FB sent me a message Friday stating the same thing.

Yeah - not a lot of negotiations with X-plan. My dealer told me that if they are off by more than 3 cents from the Ford X-plan price, Ford won't pay them. The finance guy said he couldn't throw anything in. But, I got a great trade-in value (more than Honda tried giving me three years ago, but I walked and kept my car, thank GOD!), so I'm not complaining.
Hard decision.

I was hoping that your car may surprise you early. I had not ETA on Monday morning and the car was there on Wednesday. So, you never know, it seems.

Good luck!

I did the same thing.....ordered one, waited a while (not as long as you) then decided to except one from dealer stock which resulted in me not getting the tow package.

I would make a play for the one on the dealers lot.

Going in cold to the dealer and not showing your previous deal is tricky because they know they got a hot seller and especially right now with demand exceeding supply.

I think I might go see my dealer and say enough is enough, Im prepared to walk away and order a 2012 since they start Job2 in 3 months. But if you want to keep the sale I want you to do a dealer swap with the other one I found. Send my order to that dealer whenever it shows up.

Obviously there is good reason why your Ex is sitting at Chicago Assembly. A specific part shortage is propbably the reason but the fact it's sitting and not complete would bother me. If yours needs a part then how the others being built with that part?

These issues that they are having are the same reasons why they build 15,000 pre-production builds.

Pre-Production Vehicles (PPV's) Level 1,2,3,4 and even more builds for Ford Management to test after that.

I just find it absolutely amazing that a car maker would have a model that people want, and are prepared to drop $40-$45,000 in not the best economic climate but they cant deliver the product in a reasonable time.

I wish you luck in whatever you decide.

SGT,, what pisses me off is not the wait.. I get that there are a few issues with the technology and with the shipping... but to have one dealer 30 min south of me (the one I ordered from) have it sit there (chicago) waiting since 2/23 and another dealer 30 min east of me have it built 8 days after mine and have it on there lot (dealer stock).. That is nothing but F'd up..

It's not allocation because allocation determines when it will be built.. they won't build a vehicle for a dealer and then not ship it because he doesn't have allocation.

My vehicle has been built, it's not incomplete. It has been released to "auto warehousing" which is the transport company that is bringing it here. It's been released since the 24th.

I sound like everyone else lol.. but not to repeat myself, it's the fact that another dealer has one of the exact same thing sitting on his lot built after mine.. Mine could have shipped on the same truck for pete's sake as they are no more then 45 minutes away from each other.

I'm going to visit my dealer first and discuss with them first thing in the morning. I think that is the smartest thing to do.

Oh, and this other dealership, they have 10 in inventory right now so they aren't hurting for vehicles.

Blwnsmoke, Did your sync ever show up? I mean validate? My EX was built at the end of March (although I ordered 3 days after you) and I'm looking to my second ETA this Tuesday. I confused as to why this vehicle doesn't validate? Did you ever get a straight answer to the validation question?

No, VIN still hasn't validated. Mike from FB said it would validate once the dealer preps it.

Blwnsmoke..are you sure he has it on the lot?
My dealer shows 5 "in inventory", none have arrived yet. They have only received 2--that don't show because they are retail sales.
Still waiting for mine to show up.

wait it out man - i have the exact same order date, build date, ETA as you did - and mine arrived saturday to the dealer.

its got to be any day now - my buddy whos a regional sales mgr said a ton left the shipping yard -and they are moving them all out now.

Mine was built a month before yours & I don't even have a vaild ETA.

So I decided to not wait. I went to my dealer got my deposit back. I spoke to the GM and he had said he spoke to his contact about my order. She stated to him (confirmed) there was a backlog of explorers, approximately 7,500 of them that were being held for quality checks. Between that and delivery issues (rail and truck issues), it was taking longer to ship them. She said that they've cleared about 5,000 of the backlog so she anticipates it being here in the next 2 1/2 weeks which puts me at a little over 12 weeks.

Another issue that I didn't mention was that we sold our car 7 weeks ago, didn't think it would sell so quick so we have been borrowing a car from my inlaws for the past 7 weeks.

So I went to the dealer that had the Ex in stock, it has 4 miles on it :)

Here is the kicker, they'd except Xplan but said their price is cheaper. They take whatever their invoice price is and round up to $xx,x95 with no doc or prep fees So here is my pricing:

Ordered xplan $44,617.12 + $100 doc fee + $27 title fee = $44,744.12

New dealer Xplan 44,722.01 + $0 doc fee + $27 title fee = $44,749.01

New dealer invoice price $44,625.02 rounded up to $44,695 + $27 title = $44,722

So I'm paying $22.12 less then my ordered Ex and have the roof bars (don't really want them).

Everything is signed, I just need to get a check from my credit union tomorrow and bring it to them.

Now the downside, I did forfeit the $500 difference in rebate, but used the $750 so I got $1,250 instead of $1,750. So I'm essentially paying $478 more but it's mine, we are picking it up at 6:30 tomorrow evening.

Bonus - I much rather pay a little more to a dealer that shows they care then the dealer I ordered from which I've regretted since day one.

It was a tough decision but I'd really kick myself if I waited too long and lost the approval, lost the interest rate, had another ding on my credit report for another inquiry and/or all of them combined.

That's fantastic! Congratulations!

I would think the dealer could get you the extra $500 seeing that you had a vehicle ordered in your name.

It might not be worth it for you if your are that fed up and just want to move on, but seeing how Ford has really messed up the ordering/delivery for many people and you did have one ordered that they would honor it.

Blwnsmoke, a 5.5 year car loan, really? That's forever. You may need gap insurance.

I normally do 60 months for my car loans but couldn't pass up on the 2.95 for 66 months. When we buy vehicles, we keep them for 7+ years.. Our last one we kept for 9. We send in more then just the regular payment so it will be paid off faster but it's a great rate for a decent term.

I emailed Jaime on FB to see if there is something that can be done about the extra $500. We will see what she has to say. If I get it, bonus for me but I'm not upset about it.. I think the excited/happy factor of actually having it in our garage far outways the $478.

Just happy this process is over with!!

Hey blwnsmoke - please let me know what you find out - I have the same situation - placed an order in my name on 3/9, but had not received a scheduled build date - it was becoming very clear that I was not going to see a vehicle before mid-June, and my current lease is up mid-May. I found an identical vehicle to what I ordered, on a dealers lot. Took delivery on 4/7, and lost $500 of dealer cash.

My question is - since I had an order in place and the order-in-place froze the rebates for me that were in effect at the time of the order, can I still get the $500 rolled over to the retail delivery.

Let me know what you find out, or if you have a name of someone I can contact - seems only fair we should still receive the money since we did take delivery of a new Ford vehicle, as we committed to do by placing an order - and I'm sure Ford will have no problem sell the vehicle we originally ordered.

Yeah! Glad it worked out for you. Will keep my fingers crossed that Ford can somehow make up the lost $500 from the original order. I'm you enjoyed your drive home.

Congrats!

Any chance you live in Michigan? Thought you might want to sell the roof cross bars?

Congrats, I'm so jealous!!!! I ordered 2/1, built 3/15 and ETA 3/30. My car is still awaiting shipment but we're starting to look at other dealers to see if they have something on the lot that we'd want. My two "must haves" are probably going to do me in though....we want the bucket seats with NO console and it seems like they're not building many of those. We'll see! When we talked to our dealer today he basically said, "Go ahead and cancel if you're frustrated." He couldn't care less...I'd say there is no customer service there..non-existant! Boo!
