Deeper engine noise for V6

If I get anything, I'm definately going to get the Gibson. Now I'm just trying to look around at the different shops to see if anybody sells it locally.

I didn't bother spending the extra for the stainless steel system since I lease my trucks. I got the cheaper aluminized system, washed it with Dawn, roughed it up with some sandpaper, and painted it with hi-temp silver paint before I installed it. A year and a half in the salt belt and it still looks like new.

I just finished installing my own custom exhaust that gave me a mean V8 sounding growl, no rice! ...and it cost me around $50 and a few hours.

>={=====}=^

(2.5" Flange) to (2.5" x 4" straight pipe) to (2.5" x 30" Cherry Bomb Glasspack) to (2.5" / 45* Turndown pipe)

It turns down right in front of rear axle, used U-bolts to clamp the system together, all parts from a local Auto Parts Store. There is no "fart cannon" sound, just a nice deep growl.

does anybody have the magnaflow cat-back system on there v6 if you do can you please tell me how it sounds or post a soundclip thanks.

headers into single 2.25" pipe, flowmaster, and tailpipe. this is my recommendation for best sound from a v6.

or if you're cheap just straight pipe the muffler, the cats alone (along with manifolds) will quite it down quite a bit. and it wont sound "ricey" unless you have big pipe (2.5 inch or more) and/or have a 4 cylinder.

right now i have stock piping with a 14" magnaflow welded in place of stock muffler and find it very very loud with not that deep of a sound. does taking the resonator off make it deeper and what muffler would you recommened and what size. and also wouldn't it just be better to get the magnaflow cat-back because its 2.5" piping with a 22" muffler.

larger pipe = deeper pitch of exhaust note. you're stock size pipe will not give a deep sound.

i thought when you said you didn't want it to sound ricey, you were referring to that deep pitch fart can sound they usually have (big tips)....

i suspect you would be more satisfied with a resonator style muffler such as a flowmaster or thrush, with at least a 2.5" pipe. if you want it to have a real deep sound go 2.75" or more. don't let the back pressure myths confuse you one exhaust design (back pressure is always your enemy)

personally, i've never actually tried to make a vehicle louder, it's always seemed a bit weird to me.. it's like going backwards on the exhaust technology, unless you need more exhaust flow for a larger or modified engine.

so you think for sure the magnaflow cat-back with the 2.5" piping and 22" muffler with no resonator will sound a lot better and deeper than what i have now.

spencer ur explorer a V6 right

so u want a quieter exhaust or even louder exhaust on ur explorer spencer

no quieter but deeper i think the magnaflow cat-back system would be quieter than what i have now

A dealer will laugh you out of the service dept. if you bring in an aftermarket part to be installed. Get a Gibson cat-back system. I paid about $350 for mine from Summit and it installed in a slam dunk, only needing some shorter bolts for the cat flange. The "extra pieces of metal" are mounting tangs to hold the exhaust system and Gibson's system matches them exactly. Also the pipe diameter of the stock system is only 2" where most cat-back systems are 2.5".

Not necessarily. The dealer I used to work at installed aftermarket parts for people all the time. AS long as it was a direct fit kit.

bigger pipe = deeper sound and slightly louder.

more open muffler = louder

that's all there is to it. if you make the pipe bigger, it will get slightly louder, and have a deeper sound. if you change the muffler you can change how loud it is (and the characteristics of the sound slightly as well)

have u decided what kind of exhaust ur gonna get for ur V6

am also interested since i have the v6 as well and am looking at exhaust as future upgrade

more HP=deeper sound!!!
