By deeper I'm assuming you mean larger. If so yes some came with 4.10 gears not 100% on which years, but I think the Eddie Bower editions did.

The later trucks with SOHC 4.0's and 4x4 almost all have 4.10's in them.

Lots of the newer rangers with 4.0L SOHC had 4.10's also...
I happen to have a complete front differential with 4.10 gears and rear 4.10 ring and pinion all with less than 30k miles on them, just removed from my truck, if you're interested. These were stock components.
Message me if you're interested.

is there a code on the badge that indicates 4.10's?

What badge are you referring to? There is an axle code on the door sticker that will tell you what ratio you have.

Most diff's come with a tag on one bolt identifying it.

so, i am looking for a 1996+ that has a 4.0 V6 SOHC 4X4 that is an eddie bower.

is this all the right info?

The SOHC engine is a higher rpm engine, and the towing package or 4x4's got higher gear ratios for better launches.

Huh. And all this time I thought it was just a Sport thing.

Tell that to my 99 Limited 4dr, I'll be swapping out the 4.10's some day for my spare 3.73 diffs. Regards,

My sport had the towing package SOHC with auto and stock came with 3.73's.
One thing to note is that you can use gears from any 8.8 in the rear. They are abundant. To keep headaches down use Motorsport gears in the rear, pricing is good and the setup is easy. -j

From what I recall, for at least the 98 model year, the 4.0 SOHC 4x4 stock gear was a 3.73. The 4.10 was optional on the 4-doors, and standard on the upper two trim levels of Sport and the Eddie Bauer 4-door. (IIRC, it was optional on the 4-door XLT, and available with the trailer towing package) Essentially, it was the 4-doors and 2-doors with the 16" tires that *could* have it, but the only 4-door that had it standard was the Eddie Bauer, and any 2-door Sport 4x4 with a sunroof and keyless entry.

IIRC, the 4.10 didn't become available until the 97 model year with the 4.0 SOHC motor and the 5R55E trans. I've not heard of a 4.0 OHV with a 4.10 stock.

wow, this is allot to look for when it comes time to go to the junk yards...... up untill now i would just get down and dirty and read the tag...... and i think i will continue to do so.

man i wish i had a sohc

The door jamb code is much easier to get to in yards, know the 4.10 codes, there are only two for those Explorers. One will be a letter code, the other a number. The letter codes are all for LS carriers, the traction lock. If there are no letters in the axle code, it is an open carrier. Good luck,
