Was thinking about buying a deep tranny pan, but I wonder how the filter works with the deeper pan as the stock pan holds the filter in place....

Does anyone have one that could tell me how the filter is held in place?

Tx

If I remember right its held on by the O ring seal. Its not supported by the pan I can tell you that much.

the stock pan does not hold the filter in place, the o rings do
the reason your stock pan has a big sump in the middle is for the filter pick up tube, the sump is typically found on 4x4's because when climbing a steep grade without it you would start sucking air.

When you go to a deeper pan you would need a different filter with a longer pickup, but the pan does not hold the filter in place.

If you are looking for a pan with more capacity and made of aluminum to hel pwith trans temps, that is a different story, they are typically not deeper however because that would require a custom filter that is not on the shelf. they are just flat bottomed with anti slosh fins to help keep the filter from scavenging for fluid on steeo climbs/decents

They are deeper by at least 1.5 inchs, Just use a 4x4 filter, snaps in place with o-rings, has an extended pickup that go's deeper into the pan

right but if you have a 4x4 version start with then they cannot go deeper because nobody makes a filter that would fit.

Some transmissions use a bolt to retain the filter some just rely on the press fit of the O rings.
