I drive my truck quite a bit on the highway. I've had no problems with it. Biggest problem I have is keeping it under the speed limit. With the stock gears I had to flog the truck to hold 55-65 mph. With the 4.56's, it just sails right along..

Until gas prices went up, I used to drive 75-80mph with 4.10's and 32" tires. That was about 2500 rpms.

My trip to work in 35 miles each way.. just about all of it is freeway or 2 lane. there are 2 stop signs, and two traffic lights (as I get off the freeway) and thats it..

The motor never really cared that I was spinning it that fast (2500). I slowed down to cruising at 70mph when gas prices made it so it cost me $12 a day for the privledge of going to work. I've since gotten used to 70mph so I just do that anyway in the truck (I let people pass me, and I have a more relaxing drive that way)..

My best guess is that I started to drive 70mph when the motor had somewhere around 300k miles.. maybe a little more (it was after the 700r4 conversion).

Read above and youll see my tach reads around 2800 most of the time Im on the highway and it doesnt bother me. Doesnt even sound like the motor is working too hard or anything. Im wondering if its my tach thats off. Maybe I can test it with an aftermarket one my friend has.

im goin wih 4.56 for my 33s..i may skip to 35s on my first gen..i hav the a4ld and do mostly wheeling, backroads, and cityish driving..tho i do a little bit of highway driving..usually not prolonged tho..am i doing the right gear setup?

wish i would have went 4.56's, my 4.10's are a slug. dont fear the gear !

ok, I have to wonder about all this, I have 32" tires(actual, I messured them on the truck) and a 4spd auto that works perfectly fine and I run stock gears and according to the numbers it's 3.27 gears and all I do is highway drive. my rpms are around 2500 at 63 mph at 70 I turn around 2800. and this has been proven by the police and a few friends who have followed me in different un-modified vehicles. something doesn't seem to add up

Your right, something doesn't add up.

Now, if your transmission wasn't really going into OD those numbers could be right (they are within 300 of what the math shows)..

You should feel 4 shifts when you accelerate slowly.

1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th and 4th unlocked to 4th with converter locked.

It is also possible your converter isn't locking but most people can feel that becuase when the converter isn't locked the rpms will move up before the speed does) To check if the converter is locking, drive 50+mph (when you think your in 4th with lockup) and lightly step on the break (while still on the gas).. Your rpms should jump as the converter unlocks.

yep it locks up, and it doesn't slip at all. I drive it daily around 60 miles for work and keep everything in good working order. just seems like if I went to 3.73 or 4.11 it would be even worse on gas and running at a much higher rpm. my biggest complaint though with this set up right now is the shift points and all are kinda long, it shifts into 4th and locks up around 55 on the speedo which is around 60 in reality

i run 6.56's with 31 i cant break 37mph ....but ill pull a house down.

damn 6.56... anyway i know it is off topic but does anybody on this site have matt tracks? just wondering, i saw a 4 wheeler with them and started thinking.

hahaaahah holy crap!...6.56 on 31s?!!! thats rediculously awesome...so 4.56 with 33-35s on ol "dora"??

at least....i would say...

i agree

where and what trucks can i get 4.10s or 4.56s and for what cost.
