Just wanted to know if anyone knows how to delete a key from the explorer. I have three keys programed and I want to remove one and add two new ones. The book says we can only have 4 programed at one time.

I think all you have to do is use two of the ones that are already programmed, and then add the two new ones you want. This will set those four to the new programming, and the third one you have will no longer match.

Don't have time right now to double check the owner's manual, but I am almost sure that is all your would have to do.

It doesn't look like this is something you can do yourself. As per page 86 of your Owner's Guide;

You must take your vehicle and all access keys to an
authorized dealer to have them erased and reprogrammed if you would
like to replace a previously programmed access key with a new access
key, or if you already have four access keys programmed to your vehicle.

Do the programming procedure outlined in the owners manual using the 2 factory keys that came with the vehicle, and the 2 new keys you want programmed. Any other keys not done at this time will be automatically deleted from the system.

Ok I will try tonight. Thanks for the help!

Ok so I attempted to program the new remote start keys. I had 3 programed already. First key programed successfully. Second key says could not program integrated key! But the key starts the car. Buttons don't work....would love to reprogram the keys myself....hate to have the dealer do this for me $$$$ anyone have any idea how?

After some research it looks like the dealer or automotive locksmith are the only way to reset all transponder keys on the Explorer! A $200.00 reprograming tool is needed.

So I have had an issue where I had a FOB that died and I bought a replacement. I ended up washing said replacement. I have two workings key and went to dealership and bought the 5th key fob during the life of my explorer. In trying to program it I cannot get the vehicle to go into programming mode. Then as I read the manual I realized the small sentence that said there is a limit of four programmed keys. So my two working keys and two dead keys are still programmed into the truck.

So the hundred dollar question: Does anyone know a work around to avoid taking to the dealer?

Thanks in advance.

Hi David. I merged your thread with this existing one. It would appear that post #7 seems to be your only option. However, that post was dated before many members here began using FORScan. I don't know if FORScan will allow you to delete programmed keys or not. It can be used to edit/alter programmed software. Perhaps someone familiar with that can help.

On the 2012, there is a maximum of 4 RKE keys and 8 keys in total.

In trying to program it I cannot get the vehicle to go into programming mode.

This appears to be your actual problem. If you can't get it into programming mode, nothing else matters. What procedure are you using and are you following it to the letter?
