Whats up,

My car is having a detonation (pinging) problem lately. I know this can be very bad for the car, or i have heard this at least. So im looking for some ways to stop the problem. I have a drilled air-box and k&n airfilter in a 98 V6 SOHC. ANYTHING that i can do please... thanx

A few things to do or check-

Tune the car up (plugs, wires, filters, etc...)

Change the thermostat.

Clean your MAF and the throttle body. Carbon buildup can lead to pinging.

Try running a higher octane fuel and see if the problem disappears.

You may also want to check thuis link for some tips:

Run a can of Amsoil Power Foam through the engine. It is an engine cleaner that is designed to be sucked through the throttle body and clean out all the carbon. This worked for mine when practically nothing else did.

peace
