Did any v8 2nd gens come with true 4x4?

Like the title says...was 4x4 and option anywhere in North America for 95-01 v8 explorers? I found a parts vehicle.....its a 98 if that makes a difference. The guy swears that it is a v8 and 4x4 with selectable dash control and everything. I can get the trans, tcase, and drive shafts for $300 but dont want to make the trip to find out he is full of it.

Not from the factory. V8s don't need no stinkin low range however lots of guys have done the t case swap to get low range and 2wd

Some folks have converted the 2nd gen v8's to selectable 4x4, either with electric or manual so it is "possible" you have found a swap truck

More likely though, the radio bezel was swapped to a 4x4 unit due to damage from a radio theft and the relative "rarity" of a switch free bezel.


Ask for a picture of the complete transfer case from under the driver side of the truck. You want to see the shift motor and the front output.

I was thinking it coyld be a swapped truck, but he has no knowledge. I alrrady have a 4406 and shafts lined up. I thought if there was some possibility of a 100% bolt in install that i would consider it. I still might check it out just to pacify my curiosity.
