I was driving home from work friday when i noticed a slight antifreeze smell looked at temp guage which never seems to move was up to the half way point. I lost all heat which has never been hot. I came to a stop light and i could not see around me due to the thick fog. i figured i had blown a hose i bulled over as soon as sombody let me temp was 3/4 up poped the hood and wow what a steam cloud fire company was called for by a passing motorist (my company) cancaled them right away. I found the problem I replaced the vaccum valve in my never ending quest for heat. dua i forgot to put a hose clamp on. truck seems to be running ok but I'm worried i have done permanent damage is there anything i can do to check this out.

If everything is fine now then you're probably ok. Check the oil periodically for coolant contamination. If that turns out fine for a little while, then there's most likely nothing to worry about.

ok thanks i will watch

If you fried the head gasket, you'd know. 1. it'd probably miss 2. it'd have a vibration due to a cylinder with less compresion 3. maybe some white smoke due to the water in the firing chamber. Check the oil for water, it sounds like you are fine, though. Overheating is freaky- you worry about what the heat did inside- there have been so many bad stories...
