Did i screw up by getting Dueler AT's?

Yea, so i went to get some Uniroyal MTs today and the guy refused to sell them to me because i have an explorer. Then he basically said the only tire he can put on is the stock size.

So i got pissed off and came home and called my friends dad who works at STS and asked if he would put on Pro-Comp MTs if i ordered them.... but realized the sale is over and they'd cost around $700.

So i went over to STS and we were trying to find a 32" mud terrain for my X, we found the Dueler MT but when he called we found the total price to be $950 something... way too much (i later found out i could get them for $600 shipped from tire-rack... too late though).

I really like the AT/REVO- that was my original tire before i decided on 15x8 Rock Crawlers and 32's. Well, they dont make the REVO in 32's. They do make the Dueler AT in a 32... i asked him what those would cost and he came back with $650 installed. I told him to order them.......

I need some support here- im afraid these tires arent going to look aggressive enough. Did anyone have these tires and like them? I keep telling myself 1) they'll have longer tread life 2)they cost less 3)better gas mileage than MTs 4)Safer on the street 5)im not constantly in mud....

Does anyone know how the AT performs? i do 75% driving on road.

So did i screw up or what??? (im kicking myself for not getting the BFG's because from the pictures ive seen they look like a more aggressive tire)

I know Splash really liked his Dueler AT's and nweibly has them too... I think I might get the REVO's on my truck. And yeah, the BFG AT's do look hoss from the side b/c of their side walls, but they are also expensive as nuts.

the dueler ats are good.... an excellent street tire and ok off road... well at least comparable to other at tires

the largest the revos come on a 15" rim is 31's

lol yea i was talking to ya. The reason i went with the 15" rims is becase i wanted a 3.75" offset to get the tires out from under the truck... i tried like hell to get the rock crawlers in 16x8 w' 3.75 offset but it just wasnt happening

I hear that... I want a wider stance but I don't want to forego my nice factory 16" rims (and the be left with them just laying around the house or to sell em) And rock crawlers are pretty heavy ain't they?

Did you get that BL on yet?

And how does your truck ride with the 4 door leafs, AAL's shackles and TT? (I think thats what you did) I'm trying to convince my dad that doing a BL won't kill me but he doesn't think its a good idea

Ill be doing the BL this saturday. I also havent installed the AALs yet ( i have the double leaf kit ). The truck rides A LOT better with the 4 door springs. Of course its all a rougher ride, but the components i have mixed with the rancho 9000x shocks.... the handling is unbelievable. I actually expect it to get better after the BL because i am widening the stance and the 2" BL doenst lift the CG that much.

yea the rock crawlers are heavy... but im going for looks and performance... not speed. Plus, i have the 4.0 SOHC which is one of the more powerful engines anyhow.

I had Dueler AT's on my rig for about a year before I switched to Dueler MT's . The AT's are nice but they definelty don't look as agressive as a MT. I personally like the AT's better then BFGs I think they look more agressive at least in terms of all terrain tires. They also wear awesome mine lasted about 80,000kms and still had some tread left.

Love them... I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for a great street/light to medium off-road tire. Thanks to the f*cked up Chicago weather in the last two months, I have got to experience them in every condition from 60 degrees and clear to -10 degrees and snowy. Nice quiet with awesome grip on dry pavement. Awesome grip on wet pavement too. Great in snow up to 4". After 4" I had to put it in 4wd, but they grabbed and dug great. A friend here at work with a Durango sitting on 31" BFG A/Ts (dang FRENCH tires) got stuck in in a snow drift that my Duellers dug right through. He is looking at a set of Revos now. I am a pretty aggressive driver to . I take corners sharper and fast than I probably should. I drove down a "mud road" the weekend I got them to try them out and they grabbed surprisingly well for a AT. The sidewalls actually have a nice bite. IMO, the best A/T out there right now for a daily driver/weekend off-roader, next to the Revo. 50,000 mile tread life expectancy and a great warranty.

thanks splashman, that review made me smile! Yea i kind of figured the REVOs are better, does anyone know why they dont make the REVO larger than 31's? (unless you have a 16" rim)

Another thing i thought of is last nigh at school i saw an X with the AT... they didnt look rugged at all. Then i realized he had P235/75R15 with a lot of miles on them...

my tires are going to be 32"x11.5"... so even though its just an AT tread- im guessing its still going to look a lot more aggressive than his treads just because of the size difference! (what are P235's.... like 28's? )

Hey Splash... what load rated Duelers did you get? I can get the SL rated (p metric) revos for pretty cheap at tirerack or I can get the C rated for about $15 more/tire. I think I might go with the C rated b/c D rated is too heavy (don't tow) and the C's give you 16/32's tread depth as opposed to 12 or 13 for the SL rated.

I got the 32x11.5R15 A/T (not the Revo) load range C. They do ride a little rough when they are aired up all the way (50 psi), but I am running mine at 42 psi and the ride is nice. The guy I spoke of with the Durango is getting his from TireRack too and he is getting the 31.10.5R15 Revo in the C range.

Did you do the chalk test on your tires when you got them? Im planning on doing it- it assure the perfect PSI for each tire so that the entire width makes contact with the ground. It increases tread wear.

He He, I don't use any set way of determining psi. I just start at the highest recommended psi and work my way down in increments of 2, till I get where they feel the best. I have to air up the rears to 50 when I tow anyway and I usually air the fronts down to 40. I'm sure if I did the chalk test, I would get a 1000 or so more miles out of them, but I plan on selling the Explorer in a year and a half anyway... going the "Matt Adams Way" and getting a F-150...
