The V8 uses an AWD transfer case though. You will not be able to run a front locker with it. You will have to swap in a different transfer case. As far as durability goes, go for a V8.

things are getting confusing now... I will search to see whats the problems people are having with their auto trannys and if it can be avoided (maybe adding a tranny cooler or shift kit) or something...

Well I did it now... I bought a 97 xlt 4x4.... WIll be doing tag and transfer Monday Morning...
