I have a '97 'plorer with a weird problem. Turned highbeams on; when I turned them off, the dash indicator just dimmed, and it appears nothing is different. The highbeams remain on.
Does this with the auto lights on or off.
Doesn't matter whether I push or pull the turn signal switch.
When I turn the highbeams back on, the indicator gets bright again.
What is wrong with this?
Thanks.

Do you have daytime running lights???? Are they working correctly?

No.
I do have autolights, on my rear view mirror.
I've tried turning off those and just using the headlight switch...but nothing.

It is likely that your MFS is your problem as that's the only other "thing" in the circuit to light your "high beam" indicator.

I take it MFS is the turn signal switch? Is it hard to R&R?

Lot's of posts on the MFS switch... just look a bit further.... they even have pictures. I don't think that it is too hard to replace for most mechanically inclined people.
