I'm really hoping this is no double post. I searched a lot and there are many posts on DRL but could not find anything for 3rd gen...

I have a Canadian model with DRLs. (Have the Auto Lights switch but lights are always-on with ignition :( no matter what )

I'm aiming for:
-Disable DRL permanently
-Planning to install HID kit, is there a conflict with DRLs?
-I WOULD LIKE to have the orange corners ON all the time because that looks kinda nice. They are off on mine. Something like this:

Can this be done?

thanks
Greg

There should be a fuse or a relay that you can pull to disable the DRL's. IIRC, all Explorers of that vintage came with the capability of having the DRL's, they just didn't install the circuitry in most of them.

Just curious as to why you want to disable them. I run with my headlights on all the time because of the increased visibility to other drivers.

Thanks. Will check the fuse.
I like the "increased visibility" factor but the headlights look very unattractive to me :)
That's why I'd prefer to have the orange corners on so people can still see you.
Any idea how to get those working?

I don't have the schematic in front of me and drive a Gen 2, but I'm wondering if it's possible just to do a splice or swap so that corners become the DRLs yet the headlights still function as headlights.

I'm with you JD, I'm a huge DRL fan and almost always drive with my headlights on. When I had my Focus, the Ford Dealership thought I was nuts for having the DRLs activated with my Auto Headlight module.

None of my vehicles have DRL's, so I just turn my headlights on as soon as I get in the vehicle. It's been a habit with me since I started driving.

Hi Greg, all you have to do is unplug your DRL module under the hood. On my 2002 XLS my DRL module was faulty and my lights was flashing all the time almost like a police car. All I did is unplug it and now I dont have any DRL. By the way if you whant to sell your used DRL module let me know. JF

Thanks for the reply but I already solved it. Simply removed the DRL fuse. (Which was necessary since I installed HID's and they don't like cranking.)

I also achieved the orange parkling lights look by finding that those wires were simply rewired into the headlights on my truck. (who did it....)
