Hi -

I am trying to recover from an engine replacement in my 2002 Ford Explorer v6 performed by a shop that did a poor job. I found a vacuum component disconnected at the top and don't know what it is, don't where the line is (completely missing?), and don't where it's supposed to be connected. The part is in the pic below. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

Interesting...I don't have anything connected to that either, and always wondered if something was supposed to be there..

I always had this paranoid suspicion that I could hear a slight vacuum hiss somewhere in the engine, but wasn't sure if I was psyching myself up for a problem (I get excited when I get to fix something).

Looks like this is our culprit. I wonder if we can track the other end of the hose down...

If someone could shed some light on where that vacuum line originates from, it would be tremendously useful. My manuals don't do much for vacuum line diagrams.

cross6 had an excellent post that showed the Even though my 2004 V8 doesn't have the dual temp controls, the layout is very similar to that diagram. This past week I had the dash out and replaced the fresh air recirc door, the blend door actuator, and replaced the leaking heater bypass valve. I was concerned about the vacuum lines becoming disconnected and double checked all the connections.

The vacuum line on my heater bypass valve (#19) is gray and runs through the firewall to the solenoid and manifold (#18). The solenoid manifold is located behind the front bezel that goes around the radio and a/c-heater knobs. Pull the bezel and the manifold can be seen on the right side.

I think that line goes into firewall and out under the dash by your blower motor. on my 4.6L that's whaere the line goes to. I just had to replace a few cause some1 cut them out.
