I have a 03 awd v8 mtneer. Noise coming from rear of car. Just got the tires balanced and rotated thinking it might be the tires, all tires good. Its not a grinding sound, something more like being out of round sound. Went to the ford dealer and asked him if it might be the rear bearings. First thing he asked me was my e brake hanging up ? Yes, always has as I have read this is a problem with the mountaineers. Told me to take the e brake shoes off and leave them off. Then go drive the car and see if the noise goes away. So if this cures the problem it will be a cheap fix for me, otherwise it might be the rear bearings.Do all I need to do is remove the e brake shoes and hardware, or is there more to it ?

Thanks

Chuck

If it exists, you can try backing off the adjusting "star nut" to increase the distance between the shoes and the disc's inner surface.
