DMV Rejected my truck

In Maryland any State Police can order an inspection on you ( but I have never met some one who has had that )
Other wise any time a vehicle title changes hands it must be inspected. Emissions is every year on older cars and every other on newer cars. I am unsure what year it switches though.

Is it mandatory for you in America to have your vehicles have a mechanical inspection every so often?

They worry too much about mechanical inspections and should require "mental inspections" ...that would take at least 1/2 the idiots off the road and our insurance rates would be cut by a third.
...and help the ozone level at the same time

What a deal! "a win win"!

Michigan....nothing....no inspections...no emissions...and the great lakes. How Sweet! :)

I'll " AMEN " that one !!

I suppose that KY is similiar to Ohio in respect to vehicle testing. The only place in KY that requires any type of check is Louisville, and then it's only an emmission check. I'd never heard of a DMV doing mechanical checks (until now after reading this post.)

Luckily I live just a few miles outside of the Louisville city limits so I don't have to ever worry about the hassles of testing.

I'm staying in Colorado...............Damn!

I cant imagine having somebody try to do a mechanical inspection on my truck??? They wouldnt even know what they are looking at!!!

Every 2 years here in CO they run a sniffer test on the exhaust and use a little mirror to see that you have a cat convertor (depending on year). Thats it!

My truck is an 88 so they think it has a 2.9L, well my 4.0L burns at about 1/2 the numbers and they look at me like I'm burning alchohol instead of gas.

just curious, what would those people in NJ do when I pulled in? 88 BII with a 93 4.0L, 94 auto tranny, 94 T case, 92 front axle, 97 rear axle with discs, totally custom headers and 2.5" single exhaust, and 5" of suspension lift, and no ABS. Would I pass????????

i love where i live cuz the dmv doesnt check. i can get away with ne thing:redexp:

yall should move down to the great state of south carolina if yall dont like the dmv inspections....they dont check n e thing down here. god its one less thing for me to have to worry w/ every year.

To the fellow in COlorado....

I live in PA and the mechanical check is more of a safety thing...lights, horn, wipers, brakes, front end, exhaust integrity, leaking shocks, etc......

Also, emissions.....

Your truck would pass assuming its "safe" by PA's definition....

Really tall lifts, for instance, are illegal, unless properly equipped (really low bumper bars).....

Damn you guys got it rough. Here in Arkansas anything goes. I occasionally see inspection stickers on some cars but not many so im assuming its not required didnt get one from a cop, didnt get one when i bought car, mabe when i renew this year but the shop that does state inspection looks like a damn "chop shop" so im not worried.

Don't like inspections?

Then don't move to VA. Yearly safety inspections and every two years you have to get emissions, which the results of are automatically sent electronically to DMV, so you can renew your registration.

Last year they failed me for having one of those Flyin' High stickers in the tinted upper section of my windshield. This year they failed me for my headlights not being bright enough....

We just bought a camper (tow behind) and even THAT has to be saftey inspected. At least I am going to get permanent tags so I won't have to inspect to renew! Geez!

pardon my ignorance folks, but i didn't know some states are requiring you to do a safety inspection on cars other than the obligatory smog test. i am just glad that they don't do that in CA (at least i think they don't).
