My 98 ex sohc 3.73 ltd slip has an aux tranny cooler already....should I add a secondary (like tru cool) for basic towing....ie utility trailer..or maybe a smalll tent trailer. I doubt I will ever come close to hauling near the max capacity....I did a search and I really got some mixed feedback...anyone want to add their thoughts that would be great.

IT CANT URT THATS FOR SURE.

keep in mind heat kills the automatic transmission, So adding a larger cooler or a second cooler is NEVER a bad idea. However if you dont know how hot its getting adding all the coolers in the world wont help, you need a gage most of all so you can monitor the temp.
I was SUPER surprised to find out how hot a stock auto tranny runs (over 200 degree's!) With my setup it runs at 160 and peaks at 200 towing the 19' boat

i agree, add one asap

I have 2 aux coolers and a aux filter on mine. Trying to get everything i can out of my A4LD.

oh, and i don't tow anything...ever... :)

for the money to add another cooler and a filter kit, it is probably one of the best mods to make if you want to keep your truck and save some money in the long run

Picture of the filter mounted to the pass. frame rail up above the front sway bar. Its really easy to change this filter where it is and I am not worried about it hanging down too far and getting punctured

I decided to get another stock cooler and add it to the one that came with my explorer. The install is super clean and you would never know it wasn't like that from factory

one of these days i will get around to adding a gauge, but until then, at least i have the benefits of keeping the fluid clean and cool

but probably not as cool temp wise as you might think!
The stock cooler does a decent job compared to some aftermarket units but it doesnt cool as well as you might expect it too......

Nice install BTW looks good! You are WAY ahead of the game with that...like I said before HEAT kills. When ATF gets hot it does not clean or lubricate or cool anymore, so toated ATF is like slow death to a auto tranny..

Here is my set up.
The filter is a Perma-Cool filter. It comes with a temp guage.
To the right is a B&M after market cooler, and directly above the filter is the factory cooler.
All these products can be purchaced from Summit Racing.
A little handy work to make some brackets and you'll be set.
