Do I have the towing package?

My '93 V6 A4LD has a transmission cooler in front of the AC condenser.

Was this an optional item? I thought most coolers were built into the radiator.

If so, does the radiator still have cooling space for tranny fluid? Or did Ford just make that space available for engine coolant?

P.S. The back bumper has a hole for a ball hitch, but no ball has ever been put there.

I don't think you do. They all have that cooler & they also have the one in the radiator

On my '94 the tranny cooler is mounted directly in front of the radiator. Looks like a miny radiator.

Do you have the trailer wiring tucked under your back bumper?

You must have that wiring, plus the outboard tranny cooler to have the towing pkg...

I dont have the wiring under the rear bumper, but I did find one tucked in the jack/tie iron compartment. That means its the tow package?

I got to looking, how does ford expect anybody to get the wiring from this compartment, to under the bumper? I didnt see any wholes to fit it through?

As Rhett indicated if you have the towing package you will have the towing harness on you vehicle. These connectors are only $15 or so and plug right into the connector where the jack is stored. For permanent mounting you'd remove the taillight assembly and route the wires through the black grommet behind it.

Are you planning on towing something? Just as an fyi U-haul no longer rents anything to explorers because of various lawsuits etc.

Towing package should also have a tration-lok rear end. Look at the metal tag attached to one of the cover bolts on the back of the rear end. It will have some numbers like 3.55 or 3L55. The "L" means limited slip (Traction-Lok). The "." means convential. 3 55 is the gear ratio.

1st gen towing pkg does not always have a LS rear end. Quite a few were open differentials.

If it were me, I would not tow cars frequently with your truck. That will most likely kill the transmission, which is the weak point. You can get away with it for short trips but if you do it a lot, I would lay money down that you will have transmission problems.

500-700 pounds is nothing. Go for it. I used my 92 for towing a 5000 lb trailer. Big difference.

I agree, you should be ok for that. When you said "cars" I thought you meant, you know, 3000 lbs +... day in and day out.

My buddy hauled a 195x Buick Sedanette (a BIG car) on a dual-axle trailer with a 4.0-equipped/A4LD Bronco II for 400 miles over relatively flat terrain. It made it...but didn't like it...
