Do Radar Detectors/Scramblers work?

I've got a Bel 980 also. I do most of my driving at night and in South Carolina, you can pick up one of them Crown Vics a mile off by the way the head lights look. But now, they are sporting camaro's, mustangs, and explorers... so you never know who it is youre meeting. Mine will go off, but its usually too late because they just flip it on when they get right on you, then its too late for your $200 latest piece of technology to work for you.. everytime i get stopped the cop always says that thing didnt work for u did it? so being the honest person i am i tell them it would have if they wouldnt have waited so long before to blast me. But if you do get one, no need in spending 150-400 bucks for one, its just not worth it. get u some performance mods so u can run like i try to do in my ex... thank god there are a ton of back roads in sc... but be careful, them troopers will go off roading in them vics and they do pretty darn good

The detectors work good enough for me. I don't have one, but have my "zapper" which triggers other people's detectors. That is sooooo funny. Those stupid ricers that blast past you can sure slow down fast too.:D Then you just follow them and evey time they speed up again, you zap 'um.

I've been thinking about getting a radar detector. I'm really middle of the fence here. I have no radar detector experience, and just hear half of you guys saying they're great and the other half saying they're not

if i had to get a radar detector again i would do it, just because ive got the personal added assurance that if im speeding and get caught i can blame it on the detector not working... in all honesty though, its probably saved me 90% of the time... the other time is when i dont have enough time to slow down, cant find a side road to get away, or they just zap me when they get on top of me and then its too late... my personal opinion is that they are a good idea if you drive a lot of interstates or highways where troopers have been known to be notorious for pulling people... but from what friends who are troopers now tell me, if you see one trooper who has pulled someone over, more than likely theres another one a few miles ahead to get you. but if anybody does get one, just be smart and dont depend on that detector to tell you when a cop is ahead

I will always own a radar detector , but I'll never buy a high dollar one with all the bells and whistles. Simple X, K , Ka band with good filtering is all you need and really all that is useful.

I've got an old used detector... Paid $40 for it from a guy who paid $50 from someone else. It works great sometimes, and sometimes not so great. Depends on surroundings and the cops.

What's funny to see is when someone who doesn't have one flies past you, then they see the cop... Can we say BRAKE LIGHTS! hehe... Anyway, I try not to go too much past the limit anyway (specially on the HWY) so I don't have too much to worry about.. Best bet is to not speed though
