This is the box I decided to go ahead and order for my two kicker L7s. I was pulled left and right on going with sealed, or going with ported, I ended up going with this sealed box and apparently it's made just for the Kicker L7s so I'm hoping the specs on it will work out and I'll have really good deep bass out of my kickers. Is it a good box? I don't know a whole lot about boxes :P

there's the link to the specs and everything

Sorry to put a damper on your system but IMO ported would get you better bass. I am looking for a ported for my 12" Kicker L5 right now, they're a little more expensive but from what I read, ported boxes give you louder deeper bass. Hope it works out for you.

no 1 inch front baffle... and its a little to small if you want the deep bass...go to kickers website and search

it seems like no matter what I go with it's never good enough lol

Sorry

Hey man I didn't mean to offend you, your system kicks my systems a$$. You asked us what we thought and I told you. What ever box you put it in....with two L7s you're gonna have some bumping bass. A ported box would get better sound though.

with this site though I bet I can get a box engineered from some guy who spent his whole career making boxes just for the L7s and someone would still have something to say about it not being good

whatever though

My system will slap hard and that's fine for me.

lol, sorry im not tryin to be a ##### - it just seems like whatever I get no matter what is never good enough lol Next thing I know people are going to tell me my subs will shatter that box like it's glass or something lol

If this box is not going to be good why does it say it's for the ####ing kickers than?
why does it show the sq. feet per chamber is perfect for the L7s?
you guys are so ####ing hard to please

don't worry bout it man, it'll sound fine. some subs are reccomended for sealed some for ported and some will work in both. the L7's obviously work in both. some people just prefere the bass u get out of a ported box. some people like the sealed boxes. i have a sealed box for my 2 15's. its sounds great but i wish it was ported though but thats just my opinion. i just prefere the sound of a ported over a sealed. either way it'll sound good though. don't stress... are those L7 12's? how many cubic feet is the box?

if you go to the link I posted it says the cubic feet per chamber (I made sure it was enough) I just don't have access to that link at work cause it's blocked. The subs call for

• Sealed box volume: 0.88-2.0 cubic feet

and I the box I believe is 1.5 per chamber

When people say ported boxes which would most prefer? The slot type ports, or the circles? and is there a difference? And is there a difference between having 1 slot or hole and 2 or 3 slots or holes?

the anwser is yes. and it has alot to do with port tuning and what the end user wants. slot ports tend to have less distortion then, a circle port but the main reasons for this is port area/ and proper port tuning. the larger the port the less huffing or air noise you will have out of the port which means less unintended noise you may be able to hear over/with the speakers themselves.

A ported box reactes almost identical above the ports designed frequency but in the ports frequency there is usually a 2-3db gain in sound volume over a sealed box. square ports also tend to be easier to set up for a low frequency becuase you can have a port with alot of surface area and the appropriate legnth. As you increase the size of the opening of the port the length must increase to compensate. its easier to snack a square port down down the sides and back of a particular box then a piece of round pipe.

I don;t think people are trying to be critical of what you want but you have to remember atleast half of the way a system sounds whether SPL or SQ has to do with the install. Your buying some really top notch components and then it seems skimping in some other real important areas. What your looking at buying will sound good and beat down, but the fact remains it would still have the potential to be better. kind of like torque monster headers verse ford motorsports headers for the 5.0's. If your wanting to order things for ease of install I can understand that. Have you ever worked with wood before? Do you have a saw and a place you can work for an afternoon. I would really look at building a box, it tends to be cheaper and in the end it tends to come out better. this kind of goes along the lines of the post I made advising you to see if you can check resonancey frequency of your individual truck. if you tune a port to that frequency you get another 2-3db's and you seem to be going for sound volume over other things like space/sq/budget.

heres a good link regarding ports and calculating them. etc. port calculating jl audio

Very well said - and I appreciate your reply. I guess I'll just use the box (since it's arriving today anyways) and look into getting a box customly made in the future. That all depends though - if I slap these subs in this box and I'm still very happy with it then obviously I won't bother with the hundreds spent on a custom box.

A ported box would get better sound though.

that is opinion. Vented or ported = extended low end response based on what the box is tuned to extend it at.

Sealed in fact gives a more true to life sound (studio quality), Punchier bass.

Both work well, it is a matter of preference and application.
IN a car/suv with a small cabin alot of people prefer sealed.
IN a convertible/boat Ported would be the way to go.

Could I ever just have a slot added to that box I bought? or a port?

no you cant

and to be honest, if that box was truly designed for those subs, it wouldnt be sealed lol.

you say that, but on the kicker site it even has sealed boxers meant for these subs...

it does, but sub design tends to favor one box over the other. meaning a manufactoror will build a box that is meant for ported, or sealed, or they will set it up somewere inbetween. however when they set a sub up inbetween it tends to favor one enclosure more then the other.

thats the reason for the above coment. You can always get away with running a different enclosure I run a sub thats best sealed in a slot ported box and love it.

IDMAX.

I did already say though that i plan to get one, its just that when i was looking to buy one i couldn't find one that was of any interest to what i wanted that was slotted... i see some lame slotted ones on ebay - but i want one with the right specs for these subs if im even gonna bother... and with the kicker box only being like 50 after shipping i just said f it... i'll use this for now

edit: keep in mind i've been saving and getting peice by peice for this system for the last 2 months now so I'm really anxious for install and wasn't wanting to wait longer on something like a box but i will get a better one later on :D

its real easy and a ton cheaper to build one as long as you don't want fiberglass, post again when you decide to go ported and well help you out.

the above is what i've always heard. if you listen to rap/hip hop, the ported box is probly better. it gives you the bass waves coming off the back of the speaker as well as the front. i also heard its easy to screw up the proper port size too.

a sealed box is simpler and harder to screw up. LxWxH and you have your cubic space and just match that to subs specs, which you've done. my friend has l5's or l7's in a sealed box and they POUND! the sealed box is better for rock/techno where punchier bass is better.

either way, 2 L7's will give you a nice back massage while you drive down the road. i'm jealous. my 2 pioneer 12's in a sealed box are underpowered, and they wont ever match your kickers.

you said somethig about spending hundreds on a custom box? if you take the components off your current box(speaker terminals n such), have basic math skills (can calculate volume), and have access to a circular saw, jig saw, and a drill. you can build a box for less than 100$. the mdf will be your biggest expense. screw and caulk are dirt cheap.
