Do you like this box? - Kicker

the above is what i've always heard. if you listen to rap/hip hop, the ported box is probly better. it gives you the bass waves coming off the back of the speaker as well as the front. i also heard its easy to screw up the proper port size too.

a sealed box is simpler and harder to screw up. LxWxH and you have your cubic space and just match that to subs specs, which you've done. my friend has l5's or l7's in a sealed box and they POUND! the sealed box is better for rock/techno where punchier bass is better.

either way, 2 L7's will give you a nice back massage while you drive down the road. i'm jealous. my 2 pioneer 12's in a sealed box are underpowered, and they wont ever match your kickers.

you said somethig about spending hundreds on a custom box? if you take the components off your current box(speaker terminals n such), have basic math skills (can calculate volume), and have access to a circular saw, jig saw, and a drill. you can build a box for less than 100$. the mdf will be your biggest expense. screw and caulk are dirt cheap.

yeah the guy I talked to at the install shop said it's going to sound great in the truck and actually said the sealed would be better for it being an SUV and that i'd only want to get a ported if I had a convertible or a much bigger sized SUV considering explorers are alot smaller SUVS than most out there (like Yukons, Tahoes, Suburbans, Expeditions, Escalades) etc.

I will def. post pictures after I get it all installed.

its real easy and a ton cheaper to build one as long as you don't want fiberglass, post again when you decide to go ported and well help you out.

CONIG - CLEAR YOUR INBOX!!!
this is what I tried to send you

Okay, I want details! You said to contact you so you could explain how to build a box. i would love to build one myself personally but lets say I'm a little un-confident how well I'll do on making my own. How would you cut out the squares for the subs? What glue/caulking would I use and where would I go to buy the wood for it the MDF wood?

If you can tell me the materials/tools/ and estimated prices on how to do this I'll def. give it a shot and make me a good ported box. Would a slot ported or a circle ported be easier/better to make?

My AIM is DUBNProductions if you want to message me on AIM- that way we can talk and it'll be easier than emailing back and fourth. If not, email me here and if my box is full just email me at my house address dsanders83@yahoo.com

Thanks!

pics would be great if you have any

I would have to disagree with that. The explorer has a fairly large cabin and takes more power to get insanely loud then a small truck or car. Unless you are doing db drags though 2 L7's in a sealed enclosure are going to be plenty. What do you have for a front stage?

I have 4 6 1/2 infinitis in the doors and I might get some tweets but honestly these damn infinitis get so loud and crisp already that I get out of my car and I feel like I just left a concert where my ears take minutes to adjust :D I even had my volume up fairly loud the other day and with my windows all up I got out of my truck and walked about 50+ feet away and I could still very well hear the lyrics of the song and could hear the highs even with windows up... that's why I don't think I'm going to worry much about tweets... I'd rather save for the 15 inch pull down I want installed hanging from the roof right infront of the back seats. Always wanted a monitor for some reason :P

what good is a monitor for the backseats unless you have kids? i got a 6.5" in dash on ebay for 370 shipped. i love it. i burn music videos onto a dvd in mpeg format. i got 50 on a disc and its only 1/3 full. its an offbrand ( LE electronics ) and it took me a while fiddling with the menus to get it out of japanese, but its sooooo much better than my pyle (pyle of crap that is) 5.5" in dash. even though its an offbrand, it sounds ultra clear, and theres no fuzz or interferance. my only complaint is the radio is hard to use. but who needs a radio when you can fit 30 hours on a dvd? :D

once i get my gauges in and build my custom box, i'm going to post ppictures in my registry and on my cardomain.

sorry....just had to show off my 15''......

back on topic - mice box, definatly gone pound

Yeah I always got the homies ridin in back and it'll give them somethin to do while makin my ride look a lil more fly on the strip. It'll make people look outside the box of the fact my truck is still an explorer :)

Plus on trips when my girl and I go up to Tahoe or if we go to Vegas or any bar and drink too much we can sit in the back and watch movies or fall asleep til we're sober. Trust me, I've sat in the back and fell asleep by myself bored out of my mind wishing so many times I had a screen back there with an XBOX or something. :D

my thaughts exactly. people see the screen from a mile away.

And Ive spent many a night playin my PS2, tryin to sober up for the drive home. Just dont try to play Midnight Club while im driving. It made my freind almost throw up (he said watchin the car on the screen moving one way and moving the other way for real was too much)

i eventually want head rest monitors, but those will probly wait till fall. but i love having my monitor up front. and when its on mp3 mode, it looks no different than a navigation type screen so the 5-oh dont say anything.
