You dont have an autolock that when you walk away from vehicle after turning it off they lock no the auto lock feature locks the doors after you drive and the explorer passes a certain speed then doors lock, and that is on the lefthand side of the steering wheel controls.

Yeah, I was looking for something to lock the doors when I walked away so I didn't have to fish the fob out of my pocket or remember to hit the lock button on the door, but wasn't able to find anything.

That has proven to be a nuisance as I have to walk around the car to get my daughter out of the back, then to lock, open the passenger door. Hate fishing for the fob.

Door Lock

On the Limited, two ways
1. Press the button on the outside door handle. Or...
2. On the keypad press the 78 and 90 button together.

Unlock- just touch to inside of the door handle. You can configure which doors are unlocked in settings.

Ahh - thanks - outside door handle would be a LOT easier! :)

Knew about the buttons, but hadn't figured out which ones, not to mention it is on the wrong side of the car.

Hint ....
To lock the doors from the outside, you touch JUST the black thumb button on the door handle. If you touch the inside of the door handle (even slightly) the doors unlock. Also, I believe it only works on the front doors (either side).

The little black button on the driver side door handle will work on all doors depending how you program it on the steering wheel controls ! But you only have that little blk button on the driver side !

My limited (w/302a) has the button on both sides (driver and passenger). They are only on the front doors.

Sorry i stand corrected i also have the ltd 302a pkg !

What I think NEWPORTNJ means is that the black buttons on the front doors will unlock all 4 doors if you set it up that way. You can set it up a couple of ways. You are correct though, the rectangular black buttons are only on the front doors.

3. Press the 'Power Lock' button on the front doors Lock/Unlock button.
4. Press the Lock button on the keyfob
5. Press down lock button on every door. (The old fashion way)

Auto Lock When Walk Away

The addition of an alarm system like I had installed in my Explorer Limited will provide an Auto Lock such that when you close the doors and the interior light goes out, the doors will lock and the alarm will arm itself.

The pressing the button on the outside handle worked great - on the driver's door. For some reason doesn't seem to be working on passenger door? Anyone else notice that?

Works on both sides on mine. How about the unlock? Can you do that on the passenger side? Both front doors operate the same. I don't know if that is because I set the program up to unlock all doors or not. I can't recall how it worked before that except that only the driver's door unlocked initially but I changed that right away.

Calb,
Mine woks the same on both sides (as it should).
It sounds like yours is defective...the dealer will fix it under warranty.

Just went out and tried it again. This morning wouldn't lock when I got my daughter out, but tonight, it unlocked from passenger side and re-locked?

Maybe a door wasn't fully closed or something, because it honked when I hit lock, which also seemed strange - thought I'd hit it twice accidentally.
