Ok, got my explorer from an auction about 2 years ago, it was leaking trans fluid and was low enough to not go into gear. we filled it up and it shifted fine

we fixed two of the leaks, (there is still some seeping from the shifter shaft) and i have been driving it all summer. It has been shifting smooth, never gave me any problems

but there has always been a squeaking noise coming from the trans, it sounds like a bad u joint but it will do it in park as well as drive

since it has been getting cooler as fall sets in it will not go into drive until i rev it up a bit. i checked the fluid and it is still full

after it does that once it shifts great the rest of the day, then the next day when i go to leave for work the same thing happens. I have noticed that the squeak has gotten louder

the big problem is i have nothing to get me through winter but a rusted out honda that has little to no heat, big rust holes in the floor board, and bald tires.

So i was wondering if i can throw some atf additive in it and maybe get through winter?

since no one else has any ideas what so ever, i'm guessing that the first gear valve in the valve body might be sticky for some reason

i think i'm gonna change the filter and fluid once more and add a little bit of lucus to it
