Dome lights inoperative 2007 Explorer

When opening any door or the rear liftgate both dome lights fail to light up. I can turn both of them on by operating the dash mounted dimmer switch. I have replaced the switch assembly with no change and all fuses appear to be good. When opening the doors I do get an indication on the dash that the door is open but no dome lights. Any suggestions?

May not be the case but I found that in my 2010 EB if a door was not completely closed after exiting, the system went in default mode and lights would not come on until a few engine starts/stops. Probably this was to save battery life versus having the lights stay on due to a door ajar.
