So here is the situation I am left with:
My 94 XLT has 135,000 miles on it. Yesterday, my tranny decided it doesn't like to shift anymore. To get it to go to the next gear, I have to take my foot off the accelerator and hope it jumps to the next gear. That is NO FUN!!
So this morning I decided to take it to a tranny shop and they decided that I need a rebuild. I talked with the manager and he said that a rebiuld will be between $1400 and $1800. He then said they take it apart, replace what is nessecary and then put it back together with a new torque converter.
I left and started to do some thinking. If they are going to have it apart, then i want everything replaced. If you are gonna do it, do it right. I know i can get a new tranny from Jasper for around $1800 and have a friend install it for $400. That is more of a guaranteed option, but a bit pricey. Should I install it myself. I am a knowledged mechanic, but this will be a backyard project.
So I am left with a dilemma. I want to spend at the most around $1800. I want the job done right and not have to worry again about it. this vehicle is my daily driver and I want to get 2 more years out of it. Other than the tranny, the Ex is in great shape.
Any input is help to me. Thanks everyone,
Brad
