My driver side door handle on my 99 Ford Explorer Sport has failed to operate. I cannot get into the truck and I cannot get out of the truck, unless of course I use the passenger side door.
The truck has 110,000 miles on her and thus is out of warranty range.
I brought her to Ford and they have been working on it for 2 days.
They told me that since the door was closed, it is very difficult to repair a door handle on a locked door. They had to remove the front 2 seats and carpeting just to have the room to work and to remove the door.
Day 1 they called and said they have had zero luck getting the door open and I have to wait till the Ford shop foreman comes in the next day.
Ford called back and the truck is now repaired.
Total damage is a $30 replacement part
$82 labor per hour = $363.18 !!
thats alot of cash.
Im just glad that Im getting my baby back.
I Love the truck and my next truck is definitely a Ford Explorer. The reason for this is that the truck is excellent and since I have had her I have only had to replace after 100,000 miles a front wheel bearing, shocks and brake pads and now a door handle.
