I think I paid $40 at the stealership for a new exterior door handle. IMO much better construction than the one that came off. junk yard will yield a cheaper price, but I think the 40 was worth it.

I'm not sure if there is an online place you could get a replacement at. it would be neat if there was one.

thanks. I didnt know if I needed a new one, or if there was a spring inside to replace or what.

It still works though, so till it breaks and the door wont open , Ill be not looking for a new one!

The spring is proably broken u can take the handle off and get to the spring .I took mine off and seen both springs were broke u can rebend the spring to work there is a hole on the side of the handle where the end that broke should be . Saved me the money just took the time . They are a post on here showing how to replace a handle use it for removal and replacment .

I've got the same issue now (been coming on for months). I'm just gentle with the handle and it works fine. I'll get a replacement some day. Mine are colour matched so a bit more of a song and dance if I want to keep it the same.

You pretty much have to replace the handle. Doesn't sound like there is a "fix" for the problem. Another annoying design by Ford. I still love my ride though. :)

Replace springs.

Hi all, i have just replaced the springs on my front drivers side door handle.

First i removed the handle as per other posts.

I then removed the broken springs measured the wire guage and spring diameter and purchased a tension spring at bearing supply shop as they have a display rack with heaps of springs on display.
The one i purchased was 4" long for $2.00, enough to make 10 springs.
On arriving home i put one end of the spring in vice streched spring slightly and cut 2 springs at 4 revolutions.

Then using the removed broken springs as a guide i staightened the ends of the new springs and shaped them using needle nose pliers, they ended up at 3 revolutions the same as the broken springs.

Then i installed the new springs onto the handle twisting them on like you would when puting a key onto a key ring.

Took just over 1/2 hour to make springs and install on handle.

Reinstalled handle and works like new.

[ one of the old springs is twisted left hand and one righ hand ] i made them both from a right hand twisted spring with no problems and they worked fine.

Hope this is a help. Andy. Find Photo's at web address below (hope it works)

I'd love to see photos of the fix.

I didn't take photo's of the springs while the handle was off.
I will se if i can find the old ones in trash and take some photo's while i make two more, i am sure i will need them!.
Then i will have to work out how to post the photos on the forum.

Like to see pictures too!

If you get one from a junk yard, get the passenger side. It's had way less use.

I've got some flop in my d/s handle as of recent.
The lock works intermittently as well now. Gotta open rear door and reach around to open the door every other time. It's getting a little annoying now. It's at the point where I guess I gotta fix it...ugh...

Guys - do a search. There are a bunch of posts, some with great pics, that show how to repair/replace the handle springs. Mine is floppy also, I'm just not motivated to fix it since it is a spare vehicle.

photo's of making spring, hope it works.
