so recently i noticed my doors rattle. i never noticed before but for some reason a few days ago my cd player stopped putting out sound, only the sub was going. its fine now but it was a odd thing. anyways the doors rattle, both front and the rear hatch. i think the rear hatch might need new latches, and the front needs something. it doesnt have much play in the doors, but does move slightly. i tried moving the bolts that come out of the body of truck, but not much pf a differance.

sometimes they don't latch all the way. I cannot remember if the door strikers are adjustable, but the first thing you should do is lubricate your latch. This is a nearly 20 year old pickup you are talking about though, so fit and finish aint what it used to be.

About 4 months ago I wrapped some black electrical tape around the horizontal post coming out of the body that the latches clasp around. It has worked very well so far, and the price is right.

There are plastic bushings that slide over the latch pin (mounted to the body). You may be able to find ones that fit at the parts store but I recall them not being quite right and finding the right ones at a junkyard. If you put ones on that are too big/thick the latch may not want to release. Similar to the electrical tape idea, though bushings would last a little longer.

I did the same as Zolepup did on my 91 XL - the electrical tape around the post. Lasted me about 3 years. Not a bad life for a bit of tape. Worked it on both my front doors. The permanent fix is to replace the upper hinge on the doors. After about 15-16 years, the upper hinge gets weaker and the door sags slightly - enough to cause the door to rattle, and a noticeable misalignment along the door trim. I haven't done it yet, but I hear the hinges are fairly cheap.

thank you so much for suggesting this, I tried it with painters tape and it worked great; I tested it out on the freeways near me and no rattle at all. i know i'll have to do something better but for the next month or so this should take care of the problem
