unbolted it? its fine thread and kinda takes a while.... but it unbolts and then just pulls apart. it is a sweet harness. take a look at it when you get it apart. its just cool looking on the inside. cant wait till it gets warm out so i can take them of again.. its just wayyyyy to cold right now.

ah ok....this weekend at least one door is comming off

man i just found this tread god do i wanna do this mod the only bad part is to how heavy the doors are and you would have a hard time stayin clean if you went offroad but man that ex looks so sweet with the doors off! screw it i gotta do it anyway!!!! let us know how you do it so i can copy!

there are 2 bolt per hinge and 2 hinges per door.
step one: undo harnesses on each door
(for the drivers side, look for the black box looking thing in the door jam and undo the bolt ontop. it is long and will not come out i dont think, just loosen it until you can pull the top part off of the bottom part.)
(passenger side, remove kick panel in the interior, look for the right harnesses(pictures on previous page) and disconect the 2, and push them throught the hole)
step two: remove the 4 bolts while a buddy holds the door, once the bolts are undone, pull the doors away and set them somewhere

if you want to align your doors back up when you put them back on, DO NOT clean the door jam. the hinges will leave dirt marks, and those dirt marks will be how you align the door back up.

and watch out, your truck will not be road legal technically since you have no exterior rear view mirrors.

i wonder if you could mount some mirrors somewhere like on a J**P?

i'll probly make some kind of mount for the a pillar or something that will bolt onto the fender or something. wish i had a scrap yard, welder, mill and lathe in my backyard... i'd have so many projects done already.

you only technicly need 2 rear facing mirrors so screw somthing into your fender that kinda faces out and call it the secong rear facing mirror.....aric when you removed the skirts on your truck way bcak when what did you use to cover the holes?...

nada... i probly should cover them.... but i didnt. there not real noticeable

Thanks for all of this info. I am getting ready to start some modifications on my 91 ex and removing the doors is one of them.

i just found out in Ohio thast you only need one rear facing mirror....there comming off today...lol

check it out...in south carolina i dont even have to have a mirror
SECTION 56-5-4990. Mirrors.

Every motor vehicle which is so constructed or loaded as to obstruct the driver's view to the rear thereof from the driver's position shall be equipped with a mirror so located as to reflect to the driver a view of the highway for a distance of at least two hundred feet to the rear of such vehicle.

my friend(this is in illinois btw) got pulled over when he had his doors off his 4runner, after the policeman ran the license and insurance, he let him go, said there was nothing he could give him a ticket for.

i've had the doors off twice now... with a buddy, they are not hard to take on and off.

yeah i know....like pie.....the trick is getting them re-alighned.

ummm.. haha yeah... i get it reasonably in the spot and then i just have to shut the door a little harder than normal. :) works like a charm.

my drivers door is a little louder then it used to be.....wonder why that is.... :p

my passenger door squeaks like crazy... but it did that before the door removal. i wish i parked in the garage, i would leave the doors off longer. but i cant leave my truck outside all night with no doors... i wouldnt have a tv or subs in the morning. if i cleaned the garage and cut the stinger off my bumper, i could fit.

i took mine today again.....by myself......i got them off in 20 minutes and back on in 2 hours......ill post my pics of them or do a write up on it

3 5 gallon buckets stacked is just about perfect height to realign my doors alone. but i prefer having company...

hurry up and get your pictures up.

on a side note, i'm working out in san diego with my dad and i finally saw another lifted explorer. it was nice. 3" body lift, shackles, 15x10 chrome rims and 35" tires. it was too pretty tho... didnt look like they ever got it dirty, or maybe its cuz there is no trees out here to mess the paint up.
