I recently heard (and still have) a very loud "hissing" noise upon accelerating. I know my exhaust (muffler) has gone bad and figured that that was my problem. I "quick-fixed" a pinhole leak immediately after the Cat but the hissing was (is) still there. I took it to autozone to diagnose a CEL that came on after i noticed the "hissing" and got an odd code - 1405. Turns out that the large(r) diameter hose from my recently replaced DPFE sensor was MISSING. I bought 2 new hoses while i was there and put them on. Hissing subsided but came back quickly. I opened the hood and the larger one was off, again. I nearly burned through my finger when i attempted to grab the hose to put it back on. Here are my questions:

1. Should the hose THAT hot after shutting the engine down? (i would think so because it IS exhaust gasses straight from the engine, no??)
2. What could possibly cause the tight-fitting hose to blow off the sensor and/or manifold pipe?
3. If my muffler is partially blocked (i know there's something wrong inside it), could that generate enough back-pressure & heat to blow this hose off?
4. Should i attempt to use small clamps to keep the EXTREMELY HOT hose on both the sensor and the manifold, or am i looking for a melted hose if i do so?

I want to thank all the knowledgeable car guys/gals out there that recommended replacing the DPFE instead of the EGR valve when faced with CEL #401. THANKS!

Well, turns out that i was given a wrong hose for the larger DPFE inlet. The hose was not EEC rated and had melted to the manifold pipe almost as soon as i left Autozone. Went back, got the right hose and it works fine. However, the "HISS" is still there. I've patched one leak in the exhaust pipe just behind the 2nd cat, but upon closer inspection, i noticed that the muffler is cracked on both sides. My problem is that i don't notice the HISSSS from the center of the X, where the muffler is, but closer to the front, and only when in drive. Ideas helpful! Thanks

Thanks for the write up! I just expierienced the same exact issue, helped me to the T.
