I have a 1999 Ford Explorer Sport.

I would like to drain the transmission fluid WITHOUT removing the pan.

I tried the suction device through the filler tube but can only get about one quart of fluid out.

Any suggestions?

I think you can effectively "flush" the transmission by disconnecting the cooler lines at the radiator, running one line into a fresh jug of ATF, and run the other line into a drain pan.

When the engine is started, the transmission will pump fluid from the jug of ATF and pump the old stuff out into the drain bucket.

Personally, i'd just pull the pan, even though its messy and a pain in the a$$. That way you know you have a good filter in there.

i'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish (not wanting to remove the pan, or not wanting to make a possible mess) but the reason automatic transmission pans don't have drain plugs anymore is to encourage people to change the filter w/the fluid. you can add a drain plug to the pan if you like (B&M makes one for about $8) for future draining.
