Making a seive

I beleive what everyone is referring to by "drilling the airbox" is to drill holes in the container for your air filter. The KEY is to drill on the side of the filter opposite the engine. If you drill holes between the air filter and the intake mannifold you will be bypassing the filter and all that dust and crap will end up in your engine instead of the filter. The object behind the holes is that it allows more air in to the filter unrestricted, therefore the more or large the holes the more airflow. Think'n Swiss Cheese right about now aren't you?!! The only dark side to this is it also sucks in HOT air from the engine compartment. There are also threads here about "RamAir Induction" and "ColdAir Induction" that forces colder outside air into the engine (I am working the RamAir out for my rig soon also). So before drilling check out some of the other options too>

intake mods

Hey Big T! Drilling your stock air box is easy. Some guys "cut" rectangular shapes in their box. Have ya thought about removing the snorkel? That can add some flow too. How a bout a KKM or K&N FIPK. I'm getting a KKM intake soon. Check out this section from the site on KKM intake http://www.4x4central.com/reviews.html. Hope this helps man!

sorry to keep troubling everyone but i am kinda new at all this (and kinda poor at the moment) but does anyone have a diagram of where a good spot to cut or drill the holes in the air box? thanks -93 eddie bauer

Big T, it really doesn't matter at all how much or how big you drill, as long as it is UNDER your filter so that you do not suck unfiltered air into your engine. Here's my tongue-in-cheek post I did awhile back when I got tired of everyone asking this exact same question and trying to make it harder than it really is:

Hope that helps your confidence in the mod.

thanks alot. sorry if I seem a little apprehensive. its just that its all i got and if i screw it up....well no money to fix it so i would be hiking them trails instead of drivin them
