my driver side rear wheel wont spin with the differential only the passenger one works . i jack up my truck and the only tire spinin was my right side and it was making this grinding noise but it not locking up on me or stoping me from using the truck but i park it just in case .recently had my ring and pinion replaced what could be the couse of this if any body could help. i have a 93 xlt 4x4. ford 8.8 327 differential.

You ahve an open differential, thats why. Both wheels will only spin if you have a traction device such as a locker or limited slip, and with a limited slip setup you will only spin both until the limit in limitred slip is reached.

It is normal for only one wheel to spin, you see an open diff will send all the power tot he wheel with the least resistance.

now it is not normal to hear a grinding sound.

If you think somthing is fishy take it back to the place that setup your gears..

As fortune already stated open differentials will send power to the wheel with the least amount of tracktion.. To test jack up the rear as before and then carefully try to stop the spinning wheel from moving. It won't take much at all and if correct the other wheel will start to spin... Also grinding is bad and can be caused by incorrectly setting up the ring and pinion. Setting up gears requires special tools and skill. What was wrong with your old gears?

sometimes when you are setting up a new ring and pinion, if you focus too much on try to get the heel to toe right you end up with a noisy gear set.

its just the way the housing is made. But this is only if you know you were trying to get a perfect pattern from heel to toe (on the ring gear).
