ok, so i've searched and i can't find a solution for my problem. i know that this is on here somewhere because i know this is a common problem for the explorers. my driver's door won't unlock! it will lock just fine, and the actuator seems to be firing properly..but it just won't go all the way to unlock. its getting to be a real pain in the ass because now i have to open my door from the passenger side. this is pretty obnoxious not to mention ridiculous looking. please help.

please help i have the same damn problem !

i have that problem and has it looked at and was told the master latch was messed up and just needs to be replaced, they wanted like $150 to do it, and my dad said, hey if you can do all this other crap on your car, lift and whatever, then you should be able to order this yourself and do it. Since then i havent driven my car in 6 months because of a SAS and never got around to ordering the part.

ok, i did some more searching and found a couple things to try....none worked. so, the mysterious 'hanging spring' thing..no help. lube did nothing also. let me state again i do not have a problem with the door handles. the inside handle will unlock/open the door. the outside works just fine once i have it unlocked. however, no buttons, keys, or remote will unlock the driver's side door. it tries to, i can see it moving, but it just wont quite stick up there. please help i dont want to have to go to the stealership.

thats exactly what my problem is and thats exactly what my last post adressed

yeah i was typing that up as you posted that and didnt see it until after i already posted...so yeah. thanks for the info though.

There was a post about this exact trouble just a few weeks ago- you might need to search for it.

I would suggest looking into the latch on the door from the outside and see if the spring is in there. Look at your passenger door to see where it is supposed to be, then look in the drivers door. It could be simply that this spring is broken.

thanks for the help guys...i actually tried blowin some air in there to get rid of some grit, then lubed it up. it helped some, but it still doesn't unlock every time i hit the button.

I had the same problem about a month ago, just spraying lube in there doesn't work, you have to actually take the inside door panel off to clean it out and lube it all up. I also replaced my door hinges because they were really worn, I could lift the door up over an inch when it was almost closed, do it being out of alignment might have been part of the problem too.

My 98 X that i bought used a few months ago had sticky locks. I could'nt get my key to do anything.. But a few squirts of some wd-40 through the straw directly into the key hole freed it up like magic
