Hey guys, my 1996 Explorer has not had the lock function on the drivers door since I owned it and it's really getting annoying so I want to fix it. The locks work no problem from the passenger door, rear by the gate, keyless remote and from the exterior button panel. Unlock works from all locations but the Lock function does not work from my drivers door only.

I swapped the switch and still no dice. So I jumped the harness bypassing the switch and the driver door lock wire seems dead. Does nothing when I ground it. Does anyone have any idea where I can look to see where this break is in this wire or as to why only that wire would have an issue?

TIA

I will be following this with interest, I have the same issue with mine. I swapped the switch. poked around a bit and let it go as i use the fob or the keypad.

According to my wiring diagram for my 99 it shows there should be a drivers door unlock relay in aux relay box #-2 . It says there 3 relays, a door lock relay, a door unlock relay, & a drivers door unlock relay. I would start looking there, check to see if you have power coming out of the relay, & trace it from there. On my 99 Sport IIRC it is down by the air filter box.

Awesome! Thanks for the info I had a feeling it was something like this. I'll check out the relay and report back. Could just be a bad relay.

EDIT: Wait, actually my unlock works fine. It's the lock function that doesn't work. Does this relay control the drivers lock and unlock or just the unlock function?

BTW, I think that relay is located in the jack compartment. Remove the interior panel to get at it.

It is. I read that in another thread somewhere. I have a feeling I just have a broken wire in my door harness. I'll have to check that. My unlock function works fine it's the lock that has an issue so I bet it's a wire broken somewhere.

Very possible. Common problem. I find it easier to remove the door to check for broken wires inside the rubber boot. Takes 2 people, but very easy to do.

Well I found my problem. Broken wire in the drivers door jam. 2 other wires looked like hell too. Jackets all cracked so I filled the cracks with some rtv to to make sure nothing grounded out. Then repaired the broken wire. Locks work great now. Thanks for all the help guys.
