I searched for about an hour and never found a actual answer. I plan on installing the superlift 5.5 inch lift. Will I need an extended driveshaft? How long? If I put on the shackles and spacers will I need to extend it even more?

Definately get the driveshaft re-tubed!!!! The 4X4 shop that did mine showed me just how much shorter my old driveshaft was AFTER the 5.5" Superlift. Mine got extended 6 inches.....

IMHO, get it done. One of the other guys on here recently twisted his axle and lost his driveshaft (IT was Stock, I think) and I'll bet it'll be a tad spendy to fix 'er up back to normal. For peace of mind, if nothing else.

thanks for the info. That would suck to have it all intalled and then lose the shaft and mess some things up. Did you have to get the front driveshaft re-tubed?

No sir. just the rear driveshaft. THe fronts were ok.

I GOTTA get it RE-GEARED, tho...doggy with the 3.27 stock gears....

Cool. BTW your truck is lookin good. I like the color

I hope you aren't talking about me ;) . Hey Joe93, If you get a chance, measure your rear driveshaft from flange to flange, and tell me how many inches it is. I am having a new driveshaft made by www.highangledriveline.com. I got under the truck and measured 52 1/2 inches on mine, but it is lifted 6.5 inches.

Hey Mudd*****, I just measured mine on my 93 sport and it measures 36 1/2 inches. My brother has a 94 EB and I can measure that when he gets home if that will help.

Well, I've been running the stock driveshaft on my lift for a year, and I've had zero problems. I know of several other lifted explorers (w/5.5" of lift) that are running the stock driveshafts with zero problems.

Now, if your going to add to the 5.5" of lift, you'll probably need to extend the driveshaft.

I'm a person fan of "wait and see what happens". You may never need it. I'm waiting till I have problems, and then replace it at that time.

Yep, that's pretty much the stance I took. Now I am at the need it stage, however.

Hey mudd***** i just measured my brothers 94 EB and his driveshaft is 46 1/4 inches. If you still wanted to know.

Thanks, I was just curious as to how much I was lengthening it. JonM, sorry, didn't mean to ignore you there. The one that I am having made is 50-1/2", has three inches of compression, and 9 inches of expansion.

Thanx.. i guess i need to extend it to 50-1/2" like Randall... looks like i have 6+ inches of lift

Looks like it is 51" from transfer flare to the 8.8 flare
