I'll get pics of my duals tomorrow, dual in/out muffler with piping exiting at an angle each side behind the tires, not straight out back. Just need a good shop that knows how to bend pipe, I called about 15 shops and all said no for an Explorer/Mountaineer. Found a good place about 10 min away that said no problem, did same day and came out great. Its close to the spare but no problems with that, over 2 years now and no melting or catching fire, I've never even heard of that from piping but that was the other shops excuses.
no, i think true dual is two separate pipes into two separate mufflers, with two tailpipes. or it could be 4 tails if you wanted i reckon (two single in dual out mufflers)
the problem with having an exhaust shop do it is by federal law they cant alter the emissions equipment so for them to do it they need to put cats on
the only way around this is to pull the plates off the truck haul it in on a trailer and tell them your truck is a trail only rig and hopefully they will bite
i thought there were some palces doing a diy kit by mail they send you a bunch of **** you mock it up send it back to them and they send you pipes but its expensive if you can find them any more
a dual cat and a dual in dual out muffler or twin glas packs would be the way to go if you can get it fabed up to the cats by yourself then the shop should have no problem bencing you a tail pipe
When i got my truck it already had the dual pipes on it so i just cut off the 2 lower cats and was able to go to the parts store and get some pipes for about 20 bucks and weld them into place with no problem so even if you cant get a shop to take out the 2 rear cats then just have them put on the duel exhaust and when you get it back cut out the 2 rear and weld in some pipes. The nice thing is there will not be any bends when you put the stright pipes that will be in place of the cats so you can do it in your drive way like i did and man does it sound nice. I will try again tomorrow to get a video of what they sound like.
Here is a couple of videos that i took to day i hope they aren't to bad, took them from my camera.
This is a drive By This is just a reving up in drive way and this video is a take off onto an on ramp with the supercharger but with out a tune which is going to be done by the end of next week.
Well just look underneath your ride and see. It has dual exhaust all the way into the muffler. Now what you could do is have some bends made at the rear end and go out to have that dual exhaust look. I think this is from Xan's old mounty
Here is a lil cross-over tube I had put on, but didnt make a huge difference.
Did you have any fumes due to the dumped flows and how did it sound I'm going to run a custom muffler (homemade super 44) with 2 turn downs for now till I get the extra $$ for dual tails..
i just had mine done and we wont go into that lol, but if i was going to run duels without a spare it would be like tas98xlt's. i dont know who he is but his explorer is b.a. if you want to look for a while you can find it on here, i just go to google type in tas98xlt and it comes right up. i envy that truck i can only hope mine is that clean one day.
