Dual factory tranny coolers?

Has anyone tried this or thought of it? I was kicking around the other day putting the radiator back in my truck after the engine swap and thought that maybe one could fit in the other side of the grill opposite of where the one comes from the factory.

I hava an extra and I'm tempted to try it. Hooking it up should be simple, just bridging it in with the original and the tranny lines. Mounting may be tricky. It seems as though it may require a bit of cutting on the plastic trim behind the grill. Will it cause extra stress on the tranny trying to pump that fluid even farther?

Why not just sell both and buy an aftermarket one?

I have an aftermarket cooler which I'm about to mount under the other one. It will take just two small "L" shaped brackets to hold the bottom edge. The top edge will mount to the radiator support under the other cooler.

I shall run mine in parallel, thus the restriction will be less instead of more by putting them in series. I bought two fuel y-blocks to split the flow between them. For my Mountaineer I'll use AN blocks, they are all around $25 or so. Good luck,

because I have had the one for sale for 6 months and no takers and besides, I have 2, why not use them instead of spending more $.

I would like to see pics, if anyone has any. I searched before posting this and didn't come up with anyting worth a crap in the first 2 pages.

I would definitely supplement the factory ATF cooler with another cooler, however, I would not use a factory one, I would use an aftermarket stacked plate type ( such as from B & M ).

It is exactly what I did on my truck and have never had any issues whatsoever; it performs perfectly. Take a look at http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=127283&highlight=tranny+filter+relocation

And while you are at it, give thought to adding an external ATF filter also ( if you haven't already done so ).

I'm not buying anything. I'm just thinking of making use of what I already have. I'm not adding any auxilary anything as I wheel my truck periodically and anything loose or sticking out is subject to destruction.

I am getting a used 4r70w/AODE 7qt B&M pan that I am buying but it is mostly because it has a drain plug in it and I'm tired of getting tranny fluid everywhere when I change my fluid and filter. For that I am going to fab a skid plate to protect it.

So, all that said, any pics or am I going to have to figure this out on my own?

And while you are at it, give thought to adding an external ATF filter also ( if you haven't already done so ).

This is exactly what I did. An external transmission oil filter for an F-250/350 Superduty fits right in line and adds an extra layer of protection.

That original thread of Al's has three excellent pictures in it. I am hoping to get both filters(oil, trans) just to the outside of the frame, on the radiator support.
I'm off tomorrow and plan to do my balancer and alternator pulley, maybe I'll get to the cooler/filter also. Night,
