My last three sets of tires were BFG MTs, and I actually was very happy with them. Surfing the internet (bad thing to do) I came accross these Dunlop Radial Rover R/T. The survey results tirerack posts is excellent, but I have never heared about these tires before, just always the Mud Rovers, which it seams do not exist anymore.

Does anybody knows/has experience with these Dunlop Radial Rover R/T? Here is a link: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/dunlop/du_rovrt.jsp

I'm looking for a not too extreme Mud tire with good wet and dry road manners and a loooong life.

Thanks for the imput, gang.

i have a set of the Mud Rovers on a jeep and love them, but i did not buy them, so i can't say for sure if they are out of commission. although, they are only 3 months old. so, i would guess they are still being made. as tfor the R/T, they don't look to aggressive, but sound like they would fit what your looking for. if you don't decide to buy, have you ever checked out the Pro Comps? they are a great tire too. -russel

i have a set of radial rovers on my ride, they are good tires. only problem i have is that they don't hook up 2 the pavement as well as i'd like them to when i floor it...other than that, i have no complaints about them, good investment in my eyes.

i have some kind of dunlop rovers. i'm not at home or i'd look to see what i have. the dunlops are in the front and i have michelens in the rear. (dont ask me why, i didn't put them there). the dunlops are still in almost new condition, but the michelens are cracking on the sidewalls. assuming that the dunlops were put on around the same time (which based on tread wear, they were), the dunlops are doing much better.

i'll come on later when i get the acctual name of the tire.

I got em...they are worn down, and not the best in snow...but they're pretty good on the street....They're as good as BFG's....which are highly over rated....General M/T's seem to be pretty good tires

Michael,

I dont have the RT's but I ran the Dunlop ATs on all of my business trucks when I had a fleet ( 3 vehicles Whoo hHoo!!). I like the Dunlops they were tough, never had any problems with the(cant say the same for the BFGs I ran on a couple previous to the Dunlops- I agree BFGs are a bit over rated by some).

The Ats had great sidewalls- something I cant say for the BFG's I ran, decent wear, and the tread worked very well in the dirt, and excellent in the snow( the trucks pushed plows), and the cost was excellent- I still have them on the red truck that I kept. If the RTs are similar to the Ats then I would recommend them if you like the tread.

LandRover guy Michael OT: I saw a FOUR DOOR Defender- actually two ( one red, one green) I think in Gaithersburg. What model is it? Why would it be here in DC. Any events going on at Land rover? MAybe out to WVA, or down to So MD where they have a test track?? Ideas?? The Defender may be my next vehicle- either a used D-90, or the new one thats supposed to be out in a couple of years. Have to see what they do to it.
Just curious about the 4dr though- it was very cool, racks, winch, and covered in mud!!

I had the Radial Rovers on my last X and they performed pretty well, except in snow (seems to be the consensus). Good sidewalls, didn't flex much in cornering, and were predictible at the edge of traction. Seemed to wear ok, nothing spectacular, but better than my old ATX II's

That's the Defender 110, the kind I had. I would not know if there was a special Land Rover event going on, but the Land Rover North America headquarters is in your region, in Lanham, MD. There are around 500 Defender 110 in the US, all imported in 1993 (and some more which came through loopholes). Defenders are great vehicles and the Defender 90 (two door, short wheelbase) is probably the best out-of-the-box off-roader that there is. Just, here in the US, used Defenders are totally overpriced.

The new Landy you are refering to is the Freelander, which is comparable to the Ford Escape; no lowbox, IFS and IRS, but still a Landy and best selling SUV in Europe.

October 5-7 will be the Land Rover Mid Atlantic Rally here in Central Virginia, one of the biggest annual Land Rover events in the States. We should mark this date in our calenders and plan on going there, what do you think?

I thought I read someplace that they were going to start selling a Defender replacement in the States in 03 or 04. Although I like the Freelander, it just doesnt look trucklike, or tuff enough for me- the Defender - no nonsense style is what I would like. The used ones are a bit pricey, but if they start importing a new version I think the older ones may not demand such a scarcity premium? Maybe wrong about that but I can hope.

October? Ill have to see. I would guess you could definately show me more than a saleman would!!

There are so many "confirmed"rumors about the Defender's future that I actually have no clue anymore what will happen. Variations go from slightly revamping the existing Defendr over building new Defender Utility Vehicle and mutilating the Defender to a Yuppy SUV to completely abandon the Defender line. The only thing that seams confirmed right now is that whatever happens, Land Rover/Ford will also have the US-laws in mind while they do it. (whether they apply them or not, is an other question).

One of the best sources are the Land Rover Owner Magazine and the Land Rover World; our local boarder book (or how ever this bookstore is called) carries both of these magazines.

turns out i got regular radial rovers.

Radial Rover ATs

I've got the Radial Rover ATs 285/75R16.
Great on and off road tires. Nice ride. No noise. Excellent in snow, rocks, sand, and rain. One of the best all around tires I've ever used.

My previous tires were Dunlop Radial Rover ATs (LT235/75 R15). They were pretty good off-road, but I was non-plussed with their on-road manners. Also, they didn't hook up to the pavement real well in the rain. But those were the ATs, I don't know how they compare with the RT.
