Well its time for some new rubber, got everything fixed for the shakes but the tires, mine have close to 40,000 and are pretty cupped. Anyways, i have a 92 XLT with the stock size 235/75/15's looking to replace them with 31's or so.
I was looking into the bfg At KO's but the Dunlops seem to have gotten good reviews, and appear to be 20-30$ cheaper a tire. Does anyone remeber what they paid for them?
I will be going off to school in the Mnt's and will be doing a lot of snow driving. But will also be doing a lot of Highway drivng as well. IF i remeber correctly the M/ts "mud tire?" seems to do a lot better than the R/V, but is it a poor ride on the highway? Also i know they make it in a 31/10.5/15, my X is stock with 175,000 miles, the 265/75/15s seem to be bout .5" smaller. Has anyone had trouble fitting them on stock? Do they make a 265?

I was about to get the Dunlop radial rover a/ts but several people talked me out of it on here. I went with Yokohama geolander A/T +2. They are in the same price range as the Dunlops but in my opinion much better. I'm very glad I got them. 31X11.50/15 should fit on your explorer with no mods. Well it did on my 2000. Theres tons of threads on this same size question so do a search.

You might want to do a search on "Dunlop" here. We've been down this road a couple of times :). I'm one of the ones that wasn't really pleased with my Rovers. I had 'em on my '92 Sport, and they were fine on dry pavement and dirt, but didn't work so well on wet pavement or snow, especially snow. My old Firestone ATX II's seemed to have better grip in the snow.

I've had generally good results from the Rover RV's. Last winter I had no problem driving through 2 feet of fresh snow in my old '95 Explorer. The RV's are a bit loud on pavement, and there is a bit of tread walk at high speeds, but that a result of the open tread pattern on the tire.

Many people are happy with the BFG's. I'm looking at the Michelin LTX AT as a replacement for the Firestones on my ST.

Hey,

i couldn't ever find a good deal on the Dunlop RV's but that's what i wanted. they look fairly aggressive to me, somewhere between an M/T and an A/T.

i ended up getting some general grabber a/t tires, 237/75 size. i love them. they don't look super aggressive but they do great. haven't let me down yet. did well in mud/sand/dirt. plus they are super quiet on the road. good in the rain. don't get much snow here so i don't know about that. plus i only paid $365 total for them, balanced and installed, plus free rotation. any ways, just thought i'd share. gives you another option to think about.

good luck,
bigmac
