DVD Headrest and other options questions

hi all, just upgraded from a 13 explorer to a 14 explorer. got every option i need except rear entertainment. i bought a set of onfair dream dvd headrests and hate them, so looking at the OEM route.

i found a set of 2014 ford flex invision dvd headrests on ebay for less than half of retail, my question is will they fit my explorer. im sure someone here is familiar with or is able to be hands on with both vehicles to know/see if the headrests are interchangable with each other.

thanks in advance everyone!

Honestly there is so much misinformation out there I would grab your Explorer headrest and try it in a Flex to see if the headrest posts are same measurement.

The Explorer OEM Invision DVD headrest is bigger then the OEM non DVD headrest so the physical appearance is a personal choice.

thanks for the response. i was hoping someone on this forum would know if they cross-fit and have the same measurements. i guess ill have to check it out when i go get an oil change.

Can someone who ordered the 2014 MY with the factory DVD system please take a picture of what DVD system they shipped with the vehicle.

Apparently Invision is out and a new supplier is in but I haven't seen any pictures to see what is being shipped.

I was guessing it might be the Audiovox Advent system because the pictures on the 2014 Explorer Accessory site show that system.

Ford Explorer DVD option

Hey Guys,

I currently own a 2013 Ford Explorer sport. For a vehicle that hits about $50k, why doesn't offer a DVD player on the top (more family friendly)instead of having two built inside the headrest? The older explorers have them and other Brand cars have this feature too (acadia with dual pano roof).

I have the two headrest mounted DVD's. I like it because it allows one male and one female teen to watch their own movies on long trips. You can always get extra headphones and have kids watch from the third row, though they would have to scrunch towards the middle to see.

It is a cool feature and can provide options, but at the same time it seems more like an individual thing ya know with having to position yourself a certain way to see something that looks like it's meant for whoever is sitting in front of it.

If you have the second row bench you can comfortably have three teens in the 2nd row watching two different movies.

If they really wanted to give all options they should have added the ceiling mounted one along with the headrest players (or the option of one over the other), but for my purposes the headrest ones work fine.

Gotcha. I love my explorer sport but sometimes I look at what how much the car actually was and what it has/doesn't have compared to similarly priced cars so just wanted to see why it wasn't done. Thanks.

DVD headrests installed in Explorer Sport 2015

Hello, I am looking at purchasing a 2015 Explorer Sport. The dealer had told me that I could have dvd headrests put in it (they would remove the headrests in it now and put in new matching ones with the dvd players). I found an Explorer that was a few hours away so I called the parts dept at my local dealer and they told me that they can no longer put in the headrests in new explorers, they only do the bolt on/portable ones (like seen here: http://accessories.ford.com/screen-asy.html) On the Ford accessories website it only shows the portable/bolt on ones, not the ones that are built into the headrests. I called another dealer and they thought they could get them headrest ones... Anybody know anything about this?

You can get aftermarket units that do way more for a quarter of the price. Check out OnFair.com. Some also like to mount a tablet to the headrest.

Your dealer Parts Dept is not very knowledgable.

The OEM DVD Headrests (Ford Authorized Accessory) are Invision LT series dual player headrest units and they get installed by Crown North America just a block away from Chicago Assembly Plant. They don't do them in the factory. $1900 is way too expensive.

Look at the iPad mounts out there with power connectivity.

Consider the AudioVox Advent system with OEM headrests that are identical to the non DVD headrests. $1200

Ask Benny from Levittownfordsupercenter for his OEM DVD pricing

I just picked up my 15 Ex Sport and it came to the dealer with the DVD headrests installed. The original ones also came with it in a box. The only thing I wish was there was a direct connection with the stereo. You can tune to a channel (EX: 88.7 FM) or and use the modulator but you are subject to some interference that way. This of course is only a big deal of you are not using the wireless headphones.

Just my $0.02.

2015 Ford Explorer DVD Headrest question..

First post here.. Just got a 2015 Ford Explorer Sport and I had a question about the brand of the factory headrest dvd units. Are those still (or were they ever invision?) and if they were, were they controllable via Sync?

Reason, is that I had the dealer put in headrests, and they told me that it was what comes from the factory, but it was a rosen unit. My complaint is that it uses FM for the spearkers, which pretty much sucks in my past experience. And there are no controls up front to manage what is happening in the back..

I know I overpaid for the dvd player, but if the factory unit does more than the rosen one, I would be pretty upset that I overpaid for less functionality..

Thanks.

You are correct the OEM Authorized Ford Accessory DVD system is the Invision LT Series, I have them.

First, the OEM Invision Headrest DVD system never connected directly to My Ford Touch or SYNC in any fashion.

Other than to use the FM Modulation for audio and I can tell you even the Invision ones sound absolutely terrible. I was, and still am shocked at how poorly executed the Ford Authorized DVD system is.

If you look at how well GM has integrated their OEM DVD system into the vehicles multi media system it makes the Ford system so lame. In 2011-13 they actually had video ports in the media hub up front that allowed you to input video from a peripheral device and hear the sound through in vehicles sound system. But according to market research no body used it so it was dropped for 2014,15. WTF?

Im not clear on reduced functionality because I don't know the Rosen system but I know the Invision DVD system has limited functionality, like trying to play mpeg4 movies through the USB port on the headrests, can't do it.

I contacted Invision Customer Support and in their typical condescending way told me there are no plans to update the firmware to allow this.

I have mentioned to many on here I bought the AudioVox Advent 7000 series DVD system for my wifes 13 Acadia Denali, approx $1150 installed, far superior system to the Invision, with OEM factory matched headrests and stitching.

I can't find any photos of a medium light stone leather interior with a set of onfair or other eBay versions. Can anybody help me out on which color to order to match? Looks like beige or tan are my options! Thanks in advance!

We've been trying to figure out how to best handle the lack of control from the front and I thought I'd share with others what we've finally found to be a solution.

The biggest issue is that we can't find aftermarket headrest replacements that match the "depth" of the explorer headrests. We ended up buying an extra pair of explorer headrests and cutting out the back for an LCD. (used some from a cheap pair of PYLE headrest monitors).

Then we ran the wires into the center console and hooked up an iPod Touch with an RCA converter. Problem with this is all our kids movies are on our android devices (we're not an apple family), so we changed to using an android tablet with HDMI output through a converter. Well that wasn't real reliable, had to re-boot it from time to time (the converter). What we've finally found that works reliably and easily is I purchased a Miracast Wi-fi device. This will mirror the display of any apple or android device (after version 4 I think) through a local WiFi connection and output directly to an RCA connection. It works GREAT.
http://www.amazon.com/Mirabox-Wirel...8&qid=1423330113&sr=8-1&keywords=car+miracast (a little cheaper on ebay)

Just thought I'd share in case someone else is looking for a reliable way to control video from the front seat.

Anybody? Tan or beige? Or photos with what you have installed with the medium light stone leather?

2016 sport dvd headrest add on

I want to add a aftermarket dvd player to my 2016 sport. I opted out of the factory one. If I was to order system audiovoxx ones that match the ex. Would they be plug and play? Or would all new wiring need to be run? Basically is there some wiring harness in the seat? And what plays the dvd?
