Hello All,
Sorry I haven't been arround for a while...
Over the weekend I installed the DynoMax catback exhaust on my 91 and wanted to give some feedback. Since I have not seen many DynoMax related posts.
Installation took about 20 minutes from start to finish. It did not take much to remove the stock system since everything past the main silencer fell off when JonM was driving behind me. (Jon, thanks again for the call that I was dragging the rear silencer and tailpipe down the road) Also I started spraying down the remaining bolts and hangers with WD40 the week before the kit arrived. The kit came in two pieces, the silencer and the rear pipe (plus clamps but no decals, tacky for the $200.00) The logic is you cut and reuse the pipe from the cat to the front of the silencer. I took one look at mine and decided that for the extra $20.00 I'd get the front pipe and new gasket. The "hardest" part of the install was undoing the rear shock from the lower mount to feed the tailpipe over the axle to the rear of the silencer.
Now for the results:
Performance gain: Yes, noticable improvement. But this is probably due to the fact that the existing silencer was so plugged with rust. It weighed at least twice as much as the new unit and you could hear crud flopping arround.
Tone: Nice mellow rumble and not loud when you stomp on it or at highway speeds.
Worth it: Sure, sounds better and costs less than a stock replacement and is better quality than something from Midas.
Best regards.
hg
